Just to bump this post up.
The later head sbd mention is the x16xel head, triangular inlet ports(unlike x16/c16 oval ports with a cutout for the injector spray)
Anyone care to post a pic of a std c16xe head inlet ports?
The head i have is cast number-90400185
Its a x16xe engine, so i assume it has the standard x16xe head.

The head I have was from an X14XE I believe, and has a 90400185 casting number.
I'm 90% sure it was an X14XE head anyway... broster?

Meaning x16xe and x14xe shared the same head.
Unless yours isn't a x14 head.

It might not be. I'm not 100% sure, I THINK it is, but that doesn't mean anything

Im not going to argue with the "technical" people on here, but im going to say the results i've seen form previous cars...
Andy H's car ran a Mantzel box with moderate tuning. Never made over 145bhp ish... He ran an X16.... I've seen lots of X16's struggling to make 140bhp with air box and minimal modifications.
I've seen LOTS of C16's with less mods make more power. I've seen a good 3-4 C16's alone make it into the high 140's, low 150's with just a powerbox and few other goodies.
Every X16 i've ever seen has never made the power of a C16 engine.
Donnas old C16 went to SBD, they builts it up, made more power than the previously tested X16 that SBD used. About a year after, that re-written paragraph came up on SBD's site.
Most proper tuning companies (Swindon, QED, SBD) i've spoken to say the flow rate is better on the C16 which gives it the extra peak power and airflow over the X16 throughout the entire rev range.
X14 and X16 do share the same head yes. Its the bottom end thats different, hence when pricing it up, it would have cost over £600 to get the parts alone, hence was cheaper to go for a 1.6 to start with.

x14 and x16 heads ARE different. I work on them every day and can confirm this is a fact. although if you go to vaux for a new head for an x14 they will give you an x16 one.
as standard the c16xe head is a much better one than the x16xe one but with headwork they can both be made to flow the same.
I am using an x16 on my latest engine build, its had extensive work on it and is currently making 178bhp (still running in, lots more mapping to do) im confident it will be making 190-200 when finished and I dont think the x16 head im using will be restricting it at all.
A more important factor (than which head you have) when you get to this stage of modifying is who is doing the mapping and what type of dyno is being used. I mapped my last ecu and then the car went to someone with a lot more experience. they manage to squeeze an extra 15 bhp out of it and at lower revs!

Well, if SBD has tuned an C16 and X16 to maximum tuning level (245bhp on the X16, about 255bhp on the C16), which will include full head work, then surley the proofs in the pudding.
Why would SBD claim that the C16's are better than the X16 if it wasn't true? It doesn't gain them anything at all from disclosing this info as they never made the heads...
Dave, take a picture of an X14 and X16 heads and point the differences. When I checked, they shared the same part number.

The X14 and X16 heads are different. The ports are smaller on the X14 head.

Didn't the X16XEL and the X14 have the same head at one time?

Hmm, 1400 and 1600 have different bores so how can they have the same head(combustion chamber will be different to suit the different bore)
