that wouldnt last long.... any std road car will feel like a wallowing barge once driven hard on track....
NSX-r with SC engine..... they used a 500bhp engine one for GT racing in Japan... That'd do me... final choice
a bit like this.... voila

option 1 front wheel drive
would have to be a small car with a small(ish) engine
althrough i dont like them, there suppost to be fast standard, and fast round the twistes
peugeot 106 gti, fully stripped, caged, and engine fitted with a supercharger and NOS
option 2 mid engine rear wheel drive
the perfect track cars
lotus exige 1.8 vvti engine supercharged - nothing need doing to it!
or a vx220 2.2 supercharged and turboed
option 3 4 wheel drive
audi rs4?
or a corsa with 2 LET's in

probably something like my mates e36 m3, fast, fun, predictable and reliable
pretty much stock engine but its a heathly on so its 280bhp, maybe a few more. completely stripped and caged now with decent coilovers and a different lsd knocking about somewhere which is more suited for smaller, tighter track.
it cost 4k and has done 144k and gets him to work everyday and at its spec now is a decent track car that wont kill you in the winter either.
he works for an indy bmw garage so can get stuff like e46 m3 engine for pennies, last i heard he was planning on getting m3 turbo'ed and when dies possibly source an e46 m3 engine for and have biult to a fairly decent spec

A Lotus Exige with a bigger turbo engine, but lightened as much as possible
cool looks, handling, power and the same weight distribution that they originally had!

One of these with a Z20LEH engine at 300 BHP. It's what i'm going to do in a few years when i smash up my Corsa.

Or an Atom with that supercharged 320 BHP V tech.
