i dont know whats up with people buying cars then them suddenly going wrong, seems to happen a lot.
the kid i sold my leon to for instance, id had near 12 months trouble free motoring in it, the day after he buys it the eml lights up and hes on the phone moaning.
i wonder if its due to it suddenly being driven differently. even if they rag it, it shouldnt fuck up

Just read this and thought there will be something on the Autotrader website about it but there isnt .
Anyway this kinda says what i wanted to find out:
http://www.directline.com/motor/buyingprivate.htm
quote:
The only duties a private seller owes to a buyer are to ensure that:
The seller can prove his ownership of a car; and
The car is correctly described and roadworthy for the price paid.

Received a letter this morning basically putting everything already mentioned in writing, what should I do about it? The worst part of it is that hes now added alot of lies in it, stating I promised i would get a loan to pay for the repairs on the car.
The letter just mentions that hes putting it to "the county court to reclaim his money" and whats been spent on the car to get it fixed including reciepts, Spare key £54, Window winder Mechanism £500 (Not even electric) I even mentioned the window had just fallen into the door about 5 mins before he turned up and he was still happy to purchase the car at the price we'd agreed, and a few other parts, it all totals to over £1100 plus county court fees, but I havent had a court letter, or solicitors letter just this handwritten letter from him.

You don't even have to write it on the reciept.

My Gf's bro sold my mate a car. To his knowledge it was a sound car etc. Ran fine, he didnt actually buy the car until a few months after viewing it.
Stuff went wrong with it, its what you get with buying second hand cars.
That guy has no leg to stand on as everyone else says.

Just looked into it and it says the county court will pass it onto the small claims as its for less than £5000 hes trying to claim. Edit: If anything comes of it
Also hes trying to say I owe him the money and I promised him a loan, so if he tries to take me to court does it mean nothing as the car was in my girlfriends name?

He absolutely will not bother with small claims court, he's trying to shit you up so you 'settle out of court'
Tell him that if he thinks it's that much of a problem, to start court proceedings, he won't bother, no way.

This is what im thinking Robin, its been nearly 6 months now since he drove it away, why wouldnt he of done it sooner?
The thing is my girlfriends panicking over it and its really getting to her if it wasnt for me she would of paid him by now. Anything I can "legally threaten" him with to write in a letter to get him to back off?
