No, you can't claim new brake pads inder warrenty because they are a wearing component, but the braking system is covered by warrenty and as far as I was aware only certified mechanics could touch them. But as pointed out you can replace the brake pads yourself so long as you use genuine components.

Fuck paying £120 for an oil change when you can do it yourself for £40 using the manufacturer oil and filter.

full main dealer service history leaves a lot to be desired
ive worked for vauxhall and kwik-fit
kwik-fit did a much much better job and checked lots more, vaux just changed the oil and threw it out the door charging twice what kwik-fit did

They also do the air filter  I don't even know where the air filter is on my car. It's all hidden under plastic...
Though one other question for those in the know... The service intervals for the car are 1 year or every 22,000 miles. That seems a very, very long time to leave it without doing an oil change. Does it effect the warrenty if I do an oil service on it myself in between it's main services? I guess they wouldn't be able to tell anyway.

yeah change the oil and filter yourself, put it in the additional oil changes section of your service book

For peace of mind i'd change the oil and filter at least every 10,000. But fuck paying £150 for a first service, 1 hours work tops.

The Clio ive got has been serviced by a Ren. main dealer, be a shame to break the mould now wouldnt it, how do i get a cheap renulat service then?
Just ask them todo an oil change?

take it to an independant but insist they use OEM parts
Labour will be cheaper

Polen filter
Full inspection (I know :rolleyes )
They reset the fucking annoying thing on the dash that says service me now
And a load of other crap too and something on the air conditioning.

you also have to be careful if you come to claim for corrosion issues if you have not got it serviced at the delaer they sometimes state your corrosion warrenty is invalid as a dealer should inspect the bodywork on each service and act on any corrosion very quicker before it becomes very bad (yes I know they never check it but thats their backup plan should something go wrong)
I had first hand experince of this with the TT and the roof rails but they agreed to change them as it was classified as a known issue otherwise they would not rectify it as i had it serviced outside the Audi dealerships

Guess it is worth taking it to the dealer then as the corosion warrenty on the body is 10 years. Though it could just be a scam to get 10 services out of you

I went into Kwick Fit to ask how much they would charge for new front pads on my VTR.I was really busy at the time.
£60
The next week i bought...
OE Pads
New Trolley Jack
New decent extendable wheel brace
Copper grease
And did them myself on the drive for £50! Go figure.I'd never changed pads before but i sure as hell won't pay for them to be done again.

Thats not too bad, £25ish for pads, hours worth of time, VAT. Probably quite competitive.

Lets face it, I'm not very car mechanically minded and to do it myself would be fucking crazy. I'd far rather take it to the local Vaux garage and have them lend me a car for the day than take it somewhere else further away, have no car while its being serviced and not have the full history.
Whether it needs a FSH is another matter, but on a brand new car, why not? I pay more a month on finance than that so to my mind, the money is worth it.

But to clear things up, if the car wasn't so new, I would certainly look elsewhere, even more so if the previous owners hadn't got a FSH

You already said that.And i didn't say do it yourself i said TAKE IT TO AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE.And yes i do agree that a decent service history is essential on a new car and if your the first owner but all i'm saying is that you said you were happy paying £120 when you could have got the same job done at probably a better garage for a lot less.
Your money and your call but i'd rather save £60 ish.

I am the first owner and it is important to me, hence worth the extra £60.
I know what my options are, I just choose this one - hope thats ok.
