Thinking about it I don't think it would even work - so if they voted on it and said its the rule - if someone broke it I am not sure they could do anything because to do anything they would then be liable for a court case because it would still come down to a EU Law break

Think of the underhand tactics that would go on, ALl the big teams who be shipping over boat loads of little african and SOuth AMerican kids at stpid ages just to bring them through the ranks, to try and get around it. (thats just an example) I like the idea but can't see how it can me implomented/policed very good.

are you kidding, when an immigrant actually has a talent you cant bring them over for love nor money and get them a work permit. So that wouldnt make a difference to getting them so young.

Won't work. It reminds me of the 2 foreigners rule in Europe that got scrapped because it was a crap rule. I think there should be a rule that clubs have to put certain proportion of their annual turnover into the acadamies and local junior leagues etc. Hopefully that way the talent will come through anyway and we won't need draconian rules that will undoubtedly make the Premiership less entertaining to watch.

Youve listed about a million kids (which all teams will have) and 4 first teamers who cost you over £100m.

And where did Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs et al start out?

Danny Simpson, Phil Bardsley etc are now pushing their way through too.

As I said earlier, I know you do have plenty of home grown, but the fact is that you have spent more money (over the odds) on 4 first teamers which has allowed Fergie to get on his high horse.

Hence why I never mentioned him

My main point is that the United youth system does have traditional home grown talent.

So does most premiership clubs.

Whether there players are succesful enough to break into the first team is the problem nowadays.

Yeah, but they all do. The youth team that has won the FA Youth cup the last two years (and beat you guys) was mainly English players. I could probably list up our acadamy players and at most 10-15% would be foreign.

So really, his comments weren't as bad as you make out and he isn't a gobshite after all.

Players like Rio and Hargreaves, Anderson, Nani (Who I assume you're referring to?) have come after success with home grown talent, and as the club is still bringing people through the youth system whats the arguement?

Since when have Anderson and Nani been English?

No, my point is that YES you do have some home grown, as many as the majority of teams out there, but you also have more English players than other top clubs as you went out and spent over £100m on 4 English players - something that Arsenal and Liverpool cant do, and that is what has allowed Fergie to get on his high horse and point fingers.

That was my point, players brought in that aren't English, giving you reason to start this thread.

We'll have to see what your American friends can do for you come January then shan't we! Chances are Benitez will want some Spanish players anyway

No, my reason I started this thread is because Fergie decided to point out Arsenal and Liverpool specifically about not having many English players in the first team/squad.

My problem with his comment is that (us anyway) have just as many young home grown in the acadamy setup and more or less in the first team squad, and the only reason we dont have as many overall in the first teamis because we havent had £100m to go out and spend over the odds on 4 English players.

Marc Im not sure you are able to read or something tonight. I have no problem with buying foreign. Infact with the amount people want for English talent I see it as the only other option unless you can find them very very young and they do happen to come through as world beaters...but they are few and far between.

As I said, you have the money to do so now if you so wish.

How many of your youth players will make it through to the first team though?
