shame about the rad tbh...however i'd just sell the alloys, get some steelies on it and run it into the ground....
Realistically would the mpg be 50 odd ? from a 2.0l ?

Looks good though. At least when you run out of petrol, you can sit on the side of the road in style

I get about 80/90miles to a tenner
Looks like you'd be saving about a £1000 a year on petrol which could pay for other things

He's back down here for christmas and my manager said yeah fine come here at christmas time you can have a full time job for when your here etc.
Since then we've had an assistant manager take over who he didn't get on with and today I asked him if it was still cool for him to come back and he just laughed and said he hasn't got no chance of coming back here.
Lend me the 1k and i'll pay it back over the year mate.

Ok ignoring the conversation that has taken place within the thread, i've come up with a couple of plans...
1 - New Car, Used, Cheap diesel that gets run into the ground
2 - New Car, 05/55 Reg on family finance (from the old man) hopefully with a more fuel efficient engine..maybe A3 ?
3 - New Car, Used barge...whats the insurance like o a few, i know a 1998 A4 is a group 12 so kinda out the question
4 - (my favourite) Engine conversion...1.4 or a 1.6, but what does it entail and what can i actually expect to get mpg wise ?...being a conversion would insurance be more expensive ? Cost to actually do it...?
Opinions please

1.3/1.7 CDTi Corsa on the dad, imho IF you can afford it and want to commit (and stay with Vaux).
Question you have to ask yourself is whether you need phenomenal economy because of doing 500 miles per week, or just better economy.

If you are asking what it'll be to insure a 1.4 or 1.6, it'll be too much. Go with option one until you have some NCB.

Come July/August next year, I'll be traveling silly miles, somewhat paid for by work...
However atm i'm doing around 250 miles a week to work, the girlfriends, and just general social life (however driving has been completely cut down)
Dunno if i'm completely 100 about staying with vaux, however they are reliable

Instead of getting finance, why not sell the Corsa and get a cheap diesel? I'd rather do that than be stuck in a contract for years. What would you do if you don't like the car?

It wouldnt be effectively finance though, i'd be able to sell it and give my dad whatever i still owed him for it.
Your probably right though, however i've always said i didnt want to choose a car for mpg, but for actually being fun and nippy and something i can enjoy thats comfy...
so an audi A3 would be awesome...
any 1.9 Vag tdi..
The only thing i feel really bad about is watching that car go to a scrappy..it only needs a new door and the body is mint...

You'd scrap the car? Any VAG won't be cheap tbh. 306 TDi would be a good bet
