There's loads of nice surrounding areas or actually in town itself would be cool to live, but very expensive.
Avoid areas that immediately surround town like kirkdale, scotty road, anfield, kensington, toxteth. Generally gets better the further out you go (bar norris green, west derby, kirkby, some parts of speke)
North liverpool - Aintree has ok bits, and out furhter towards maghull etc.
I live in West Derby and its spot on alot of my family do too, just shows you dont really no some places that well, just hear say
Actually I don't know why I put west derby tbh. I always think west derby after norris green cos' my step dads family are split between the two places (well it's only his stubbern mum who won;t leave norris green).

best thing to do is just come and have a look around,as you can have some nice areas or roads then literally just around the corner its a shit hole.

This thread is about which bits are nice, not whether South Wales or Widnes are worse.
Speaking from my experience of having lived here, a standpoint which I notice some people don't benefit from, my recommendation would be to see what type of property you want and whether you need to be close to the city centre or not.
The question of where in Liverpool is good is a big one as it's a big place.

It's my natural defence of liverpool kicking in
I agree with your main point ian but it's not exactly tangible. Fair enough he could come and look around all the areas of liverpool ( and I'd presume he'd probably do that to an extent if he was seriously considering it), although it is a pretty big place so us ruling out some area's is probably helpful?

Of course, but also if you're coming with a budget of £200k for example, that is either a boss flat in town, or a semi in Mossley Hill or a castle in Fazakerley.
Friend of a friend of mine paid about 212k for a 4 bed detached new build, double garage, conservatory, path for many vehicles etc. Area has a bad name but I wouldn't rule it out.
Same money gets a 3 bed in Aigburth which in some parts is no better for scals.

Agreed, same could be said for most cities . I suppose alot of it is your gut feel of an area, and how much you are interested in other peoples opinions.

Imo, the further away from liverpool you are, the nicer the area, heading towards southport is a pretty nice area
