So yours broke cause how you drove it then? the gear box bolt and fuel pump, thats what iv been looking at full service history no modifications at all, mk 2 is that the face lift model? whats the diffrence between mk 1 and mk 2 spec ect?

mk1s had less power mk2s had abit more power. mk2s are the face lift model difference is new front lights new rear lights new dails.
i think thats it.

Bad rear axles, Rust wheel bearings. dodgy Lower cam bet pully worn woodroof keys witch can break causing same symptoms as broken cam belt.
They should be replaced evey cam belt change.
There quids from pug about £5 for a bag of 5 but can save loads of trouble.
Also maybe tapping as maybe chavers may not have run it low on oil

Thing is it will get looked after and believe it or not dont drive my cars hard every day as works about a 15 minute drive and struggle to get over 50mph on the journey due to traffic in and out of town same on way home its only week ends off and days off ill ever take it out for a drive i just think they look really nice standard to

i find it amusing that people think problems they have had with cars, are suddenly 'common problems' that affect a wide number of vehicles
this is aimed at noone in particular, just an observation
Just because a pump goes, or this or that, on your car, doesnt mean its a common problem lol

next question were and how much to get lowered propaly? and how low is ok not after 90mm scraping every were has to be a bit praticle thinking 50m maybe 60mm?

I've said they are ace cars. Don't listen to all these people reeling off faults, it's bollocks. Most of the people in this thread haven't owned one and assume because their 18yr old mates keeps breaking (surprise surprise) then they're all like that. I'd most definately have another, although i'd be more in the market for a VTS now.

Would it be worth waiting the extra 6 months and getting a vts instead of a vtr then a vts?

wasnt aimed at you i said pump as it was something that came to my head, i tried to suggest something that someone hadnt said for this very reason, obviously i failed

I agree, get one from a garage with a warranty to be safe, but that goes without saying when buying any car.

check gearbox they get very crunchy and clunky
listen for knocks from the front suspension as drop links, ball joints and driveshafts go allot if the cars been lowered.
check play in rear beam and drive behind the car to see if its crabbing as bushes are prone to go.
take a can full of water with you and pour it over to check for leaks through the interior light and down the sunroof drainage system.
if the cars been hammered the engines are normally quite tappy.
think ive covered everthing. just dont go for a car thats been modified and you should get a good one.
parts are very cheap for them tho and aftermarket parts are everywhere so they make for a good car.
as said tho try insurance on a vts youd be surprised by how little more it is.

i wont iv found one from a garage with full service history less then 50k and full tax and mot, the sunroof drainage were would it leak inside the car? when you say drive behind to see if its grabbing you mean its guna be switchy?

If it was leaking it'd already be piss wet through inside, due to this recent weather anyway, mate.

if the rear beam has gone it looks like the rear end of the car is trying to overtake the front if you get what i mean.
the sunroof drainage runs down the passengers side a pillar and youd normally get a wet carpet in the passengers footwell.
