hi Dan.
we had a similar problem when we first tried to start it after the rebuild, we fitted new plugs and checked all connections and it was down to something with the coil or distributor, but then after refitting it all it fired up absolutely fine so we checked for loose connections and it was fine.
vid sounds like its not running on all 4 cylinders to me, ignore the wires behind the dash not being connected as I had a look under there when the rev counter stopped working and it is a bit of a mess of wires and black tape, looks like someone has had a good play around under there.
what did the plugs look like when they were removed?

very sooty. 2 were damp, 2 had actual liquide around the base, and one slightly damp on the top arc if you get me.
As soon as i let my foot off the gas it simply cuts out.

sounds like too much fuel or not getting a spark.
If I had to guess I would try a new coil and dizzy setup, especially as we had a problem that went away after we had disturbed them.

well im confused to as why the car runs better if i keep me foot down a while???
Yeh well i might tow it to the MOT and just say stick a new Dizzy/coil on it for me. See what its like.

I had this same problem mate, it would fire then just about run then it wouldnt run after we switched of, so i changed crank, tempand fuel relay, as the relay gives the fuel rail a signal to fuel properly, mine now runs a treat,
please try all these three as im sure this is ur problem, the only thing is im not sure wat one sorted it but it could of been a combination of things, plus we had no engine light to

does it show up on diagnostic equipment? my mates having a gander now with his gadgets.
Are the relays on the ecu or in the wiring? New plugs/sensors too maybe?

yeh mate.
I have a few black boxes by the ECU under the fuse box but i dont think there's any 7 pin ones.
Maybe some 4 and 6 but they each only have one/2 wires in each?

some xe's had the fuel pump relay next to the coil.
oddly had same with mine ages ago although you could hear the relay buzzing like mad adn then car obviously would start to massively overfuel etc etc. new relay didnt cure it. i never ever found out what it was. one day it just stopped doing it and never returned. id checked everything, yet fixed nothing.

Change the Ignition Coil. It was the answer to mine only firing on 2 cylinders.

wiring behind your digidash is shockingly bad dan as I found out when I wired up the rev counter.

yup lol.
im thinking of paying for a proffesinal car electronics company to put a fresh simple loom in it and tidy it all up when its fixed.
Not heard from me mate yet, which is probably goo dnews as he's not stuck.
So at the minute its either - bad wiring, coil/dizzy, or leads.
Then i duno - will be a trailer and off to Dave A again haha.

I had nearly the same problem. Running rough as fuck some of the time, then changed it's mind to all the time, ok on full throttle, shit on part throttle. EML light flickered when it was gonna fuck up. The fuel relay buzzed it's balls off. Sounded like it was running on 2. Tried all sorts to solve it.
Turned out it was a dodgy earth.

you might not thoigh, the earth might just upset the voltagte readings from certain sensors the ecu needs
