My goodness!
This is coming on like a heavily menstrual lady.

Best garage ever.

The cage it will presumably have, and the quality of the welding.
'Cut and shut' is normally a phrase used for a couple of cars which have been welded together badly, not all cars which have been done, like limos.
As long as it's welded well, and especially with a proper cage in it, it'll be fine.
Audi did it anyway, they never had one fall apart

oh right ok, i just thought they were unsafe due to having a weld line all the way round which made it weaker, didnt know it just refered to quick bodge jobs!

A bit more done today, this included further cutting to get the shell to sit just right. Then it was tacked together. Doesn't sound much, but there was a good bit to be thought about! That, and the discuss, measure, measure, measure, discuss, measure, measure, discuss, cut method can be a bit time consuming but it works well!
Sits really nicely now and is bob on straight! It's now back to being sat on just 4 axel stands!
Still needs to be properly welded but there’s bits that need doing first and some more discussion! It truly is awesome to see it back together again! Anyhow, less of the waffle and more of the pics!
First off, the roof section which was cut out yesterday
The random pile of other bits that was cut out
The chassis legs tacked in. Loads of area for them to be welded in properly.
Some more random shots
The roof sitting nicely
... and from the inside
Still loads more to be done, but its a giant leap in the project!

Weld in roll cage will take all the strength/strain I would imagine.

If you had read the thread and in particular Robins post you would know thta there is nothing wrong with a cut and shut if done properly.
Cut and shuts have a bad name for two reasons
Firstly they are often shoddily done in a hurry to sell on for a quick book
Secondly one half is often stolen

This will be alot stronger than the original car was when its fully welded back together and a proper cage put in to make sure its all rigid!

Like healed broken bones, the welded join of two pieces of metal (if prepared and welded correctly) is stronger than the material that it joins, itself Lee.

He got most of it welded back up today, just a few areas to weld further and then need to make a new floor section.

any car thats been sectioned could be called a cut and shut, like a car gettin the whole front end from a scrappy car (chassis legs fltichs frot panel etc) or one thats had say 1/4 inner 1/4 rear panel floor legs etc etc

He spent bit more time on it again today.
Cut a piece of 2mm steel to weld the chasis rails together. Got that done and then cut the seat stops off the floor supports, and then welded up the pieces I cut with the grinder on the floor!
More pics to come tomorrow, should have some of the floor made back up!

Some more stuff done today, not as much as he would like but never mind!
The floor was cut back by about 70mm to get rid of the rusty seam on the floor. Then cut and welded a plate to tie the transmission tunnel back together. This then lead into making some card templates to see how the floor is going to go back together. Should have the metal cut and folded this week.
Cut out the inner skin of the roof to revel the second skin on the inside of the roof so it can be welded from inside to impart more strength.
