I do want a easy to use camera and something which will last me! any recomendations?

400D or equivalent Nikon, both good manufacturers with loads of extras available.

I went into Currys & they gave me a 400D & D40x (i think?) to play with, for me, the Canon felt nicer to hold & i found it easier to use the features, but i think its personal preferance.

Yep, Canon or Nikon every time for me.

Seems to be a better selection of lenses and other gear

There is certainly nothing to 'oh dear' about the 400D.

The standard lens is a bit 'soft', ie. not crystal sharp shots but perfectly useable. I also got hold of the new(ish) Canon 55-250 IS lens for motorsport and football shots.

May post some up tomorrow of todays trip to Wembley

I think the standard lense is fine. I've had really sharp imagery from it. obviously there are better lenses out there. But the standard is fine for people starting out.

Standard lens is fine, theres no difference in sharpness until you start pixel peeping and most people who complain just can't use it properly.

It is of a lesser quality than other lenses, but as said only when you start comparing at small levels.

Can't beat it for value though, and as I said before, perfectly useable for most stuff.

Have a look in my picture thread on here, the pics were either taken with the kit lens or a 90-200 lens i got with the camera.
