I wouldn't leave the xsi engine in the xsi personally, I'd get a 16v lump in £300-£400 engine sorted

Really its not though is it!
I have a 1.6 205 gti and don't like the way it handles at all. Hopefully i just have a bad example but really do think people over rate them.
Another option to consider might be a civic/crx but again prices are up and they do suffer rust?
Mk4 fiestas are dirt cheap atm and loads of parts engines available!

Odd... I have a 205 GTi with a 1.9 8v ready to drop in for sale...
But then i may be tempted to sell my 106 XSi, with a full 16v conversion kit for the right money...
Just something to think about

Maybe. Were thinking of rebuilding a 1300 for mine with 1400 bottom end. Would be ideal for sprinting. Reckon it could be competitive with light mods; tbs, cam,. If I wanted to go all out, forged pistons, headwork, tbs, 300 degree cam or something silly. Sprinting is surprisingly easy to get competitive in, its low cost and less risky. Not quite circuit racing but a start

nice that but i think id rather spend half that or less, and work on it as a project, aslong as the engines decent and the bodywork isnt too bad

Butler's red s1 is 1.6 8v with cam and stuff i believe, and a LSD - but a s1 rallye (short) gearbox

Though I'd imagine the reason he'd want to fit a 1.3 is to qualify for a lower class of car, where as a 1.6 16v is probably in a class where people are spending silly money on 190-200 bhp +.

ah I last I Remembered he sad an s1 rallye 1.3?
yes its always the case.. some people are spending 40-50k on 1600's and pushing silly power...
western park events had a few 106's 16v tb's with unreal work done to them.. keeping up with mk2's (350bhp ish) dont the first stretch

Its one thing having a quick car to surprise people with on track days, but competing is a whole different league. Only really matters how fast in class you are even if it is limited to 1400cc. Makes sense Paul. Sorry to sway from the topic, I found it so easy on this forum!

205 is a doddle to work on..... as easy as a nova/corsa...
rear torsion bar isnt hard.
Go for a 1.9 8v pug... more torque, just try and use the 1.6 gbox
