kessler , and lacy were not shite

5 years ago there was Toney, Roy Jones, Glen Johnson, Hopkins etc (whatever the reason why it didn't happen) the fights were there but Joe never got involved, Warren certainly is to blame for that.

all above fighters were fighting in light heavy, as said jones was offered the fight but "pussyed out"
warren isent to blame for the lack of top fighters calzaghe fought imo
the devision was generelly pretty weak

agreed the division was weak, a lot of the top dogs in the light heavy wouldnt fight Calzaghe, was too much of a gamble/risk for the payday they would have recieved as Calzaghe was not well known in the states by the general boxing fan.

Meh, you say the fights weren't there, I say they were. I just feel Joe's potential as a great has not (and now will not) be realised. he is a great fighter, 90 percent of his opponents haven't been so he will never get the respect he deserves. I mean what the FUCK was he doing fighting Manfredo? pointless.

the fights against top opponents werent there, none of the top dogs of the light heavy division wanted to take the risk against Calzaghe for a small pay day as Joes name wouldnt bring in enough revenue for the American audience at the time, so the risk didnt warrant the reward. Thats what stopped a lot of prospective fights.

Fighting Manfredo sums up Frank Warren in general he likes to protect his fighters and doesnt often take a risk. I agree Calzaghe is a great boxer, slick, great feet and a good ring tactician combined with a good chin makes him a formidable opponent for anyone to come up against

I think it's a bit of a cop-out answer to be honest, I find it hard to believe that every decent fighter around (Jones, Johnson etc) was scared of Joe and wouldn't fight him, I feel it's more of a case of Warren protecting his career by matching him with non-entities.

again as said, johnson and jones were in light heavy, they aint gonna drain down and drop a weight for little money to fight someone "who was barley know of in the USA"
the reason he fought manfredo was to get a more bigger name across the waters, (obiviouse too it was a wank warren easy match)
name me some top fighters who could of fought him in that catorgry for cheap???
also name serveral top fighters that hopkins hasent really fought too many big names, yeh hes fought a few jones being one of them and he got his ass handed to him

he could have stepped up rather than them stepping down, he's been champ for 10 years, and please tell me you're joking about Hopkins he's fought just about everyone of note over the course of his career.

What, names for Hopkins you mean? Jones Tarver Wright De La Hoya Taylor Joppy Eastman Trinidad and now Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is stepping up now isn't he? It was a viable option for years rather than staying where he was and fighting bums.

Like I said I'm not convinced of that but I suppose we'll never know. The fact that Johnson was going to fight him kind of proves my point though doesn't it?
