the fogs were part of the "front airdam kit" i quoted the part number as on the website, and passed that to the body shop. the box with that part number arrived at the body shop......i couldnt see the issue myself

Fair enough - I imagine the fogs having different part numbers, but you usually know your stuff. Their fault.

tbf Dean the fogs will have a part number, as will the screws to attach the bumper and the wire loom for the fogs but i quoted the number off the Vaux site which matched the seller (irmscher-bits) and the Irmy site.....i fought my corner!

I get loads, best one recently is a qualified mechanic telling me that he had changed his LAMBADA sensor, it was difficult to keep a straight face.

had a sprinter van in on the dyno yesterday for testing, customer that had owned it is also a vehicle technician and he insisted it was front wheel drive. Soon found out it wasnt when the rear tyres started to spin up on the workshop floor when we tried to do a power run

my mrs had a smart car, so she dropped it off at the mercedes dealer in manchester for a service and mot, they rang her and said the service had been done, but before they mot'd it they wanted to let her know that it apparently needed 3 new tyres at £110 each, a new backbox, and new discs and pads, all totalling £800 before they mot'd it!

luckily i walked in from work just as they got off the phone, rang them back, told them to leave it alone, picked it up, took it to my local garage and it flew through with one advisory on a tyre which they then replaced for £55

fuckin bullshitters at smart manchester, there was nothing at all wrong with the exhaust, they reckoned it was blowing, and the mechanic at my local garage said brakes were spot on.

My local garage are a pain in the arse.

"My polo has a flatspot"
2 days later "We could'nt find anything after looking for hours"
Took it to a different garage who blanked off a valve in 30 mins.

"We can't find the rubbing noise coming from your car"
Took it to an exhaust place who soon fixed the issue.

I think they're just lazy, rather than bullshitters

Naaah I didn't pay

The garage where the Ford is at are the best.
"£75 for that."
"I've only got £50 cash or my debit card"
"£50 it is without VAT but you won't get a reciept"

What do I need a reciept for for a £50 exhaust?

Oh yeah! When my fan came off it took it to my local garage who said, and I quote.

"Thats a radiator and front end off job, gonna take a while"

My and a mate put a new fan back on in an hour later that night, only got a cut arm from pulling the rad forward.

The trouble with most places, imho, is that people are trained as technicians, not mechanics. So mechanical knowledge is limited to the vehicles the garage sells. That and the computer they plug in to.

Just small things with parts dpts rather than mechanics:

Vauxhall receptionist said they wouldnt be able to pick my car up from my work or house because the mechanic can get pulled over by the police if they see the speedo not working .... police with xray vision WOOOWW

a Parts person at Vaux didnt know what a 'splitter' was or 'the rubber bits on the bottom of the front bumper?' '2 seprate rubber bits that are acttached the bottom of the bumper for a corsa?' you know a 'splitter' the black thing you have under the front of the bumper! you can clearly see!

Me: ' i have a newer facelift bumper for my Corsa C which i am will be fitting to a pre facelift 2001, the newer bumper is 2004/2003 onwards , do you have any of the bumper inserts in stock?'

Vauxhalls reply : 'can i have the reg number please for the bumper'

me: 'there wouldnt be any point giving you my reg number, its a pre facelift car'

Vauxhall: im sorry i cant find the part i need the reg
Blah blah

oh i forgot, i went with a mate to drop his astra Gsi MK3 to a garage for the clutch to be replaced, left it to them to order the clutch etc. got a phone call later that afternoon, "were having trouble finding the right clutch for your car" they'd given vauxhall the reg and all other details.

any way after three days of badgering around, they mechanics all decided that the engine (REDTOP) had been replaced with another one from an Omega along with the Gearbox. My mate didnt really know too much about which vaux's had which engines etc. so he gave me a call, and explainedthe situation.

i went down to the garage and tried to explain to them that omegas are Rear wheel drive. and they looked at me and said "that doesnt make a difference"

the thing is the mechanic used to work for vauxhall for 13 years, he wouldnt have none of it. he new better. ive never seen a omega with a Redtop in it. or a Front wheel drive astra with an omega gearbox.

phi 2/3 of yours sound reasonable, they usually use a reg number so if you gave them a reg number of a facelift car, and yeh you can get points for your speedo not working

Then why doesn't the Vauxhall service manuals, Ford service manuals and BMW service manuals I have seen say to the replace the headgasket at say, the 50k mile interval.

A load of pish imho. Haynes also says to disconnect the battery when replacing bulbs and shit. Just covering their backs imho so they don't get sued.
