Ah! I get ya now. Yeah pretty much, hence the bike patch does the trick. I did it as a temp fix and left it 12 months. Was in the middle though and was only a thorn, nothing major.

A half decent gargage would fix it.
where it says bead wire in that pic,i had a puncture and my ,local back street garage fixed it

Was fine,as i say it lasted the life of the tyre.
It only punctured there as i clipped the kerb,the guy even hammered my rim back into shape

lol yeah a half decent garage wont fix that shit, were not allowed to at work we have to replace the tire, app. its illegal to repair it. (i work in a main dealer).
The tire mushroom wont stick to the inside of the tire properly because its curves where the nail is, it has to be on a flat spot or it will peel off and just leak air.

last time i replaced my tyres the very same night i had two of them slashed.
They were Michelin Pilot tyres aswell so quite pricey.

We fix tyres like that, we just tell the customer its at their own risk. Obviously if there is major damage to the sidewall when the tyre is off then go from there but we have had no complaints so far.

it depends if the damage shown has started to damge the inner of the sidewall, then u got a different story

Ive had a nail in the same position as that before, and 2 garages refused repair it.
So i replaced the tyre.
Best option imo, when you see how shite the actual patches are that they use to do it. Like something you'd use to repair a rubber dingy.

Fair enough they're not old tyres, but if it needs to be replaced then it needs to be replaced. Just because other people have had it repaired and been fine doesn't mean that yours will necessarily be alright.
It's definitely annoying having to replace something practically brand new, but I'd rather that than a dodgy repair.

Why do people take stupid risks with tyres. Its the only part of the car which touches the ground FFS. The garage i work at wouldn't repair it and i wouldn't want it repaired if it were mine.

I took mine to two tyre places ATS and a local garage and they both wanted about £17 to repair it untill i showed them!
Then they wouldn't touch it (same place as urs)
Took to where i used to work, fixed it for free

As you say, it's at their own risk. Personally, i would never skimp on tyres unless i really had to. Only thing holding you to the road!

Sure it will repair. Personally I wouldn't consider it. Replacement is considerably cheaper than picking up the bits after a blow out at speed. I'm not scaremongering, but they don't pick the rules out of the air. Someone one day sat down and considered that tyre sidewalls flex in normal anticipated operation therefore a repair won't be as effective. Therefore repairs in that area are not recommended. Particularly as that is a large hole which will deflate faster than you can slow the car down to a safe speed.
And that assumes that the tyre does not suffer and structural failure.
Not worth the risk.
