high petrol prices would never get in the way for me.
if i want something that bad i'd save enough to be able to afford it.
why put up with something you don't want just because it saves money?
i'd rather the smile on my face every time i press the power button

I bought a diesel before the price went up, but find me a petrol that does 350 miles for £45, and has ~130bhp lol

Keeping my Xsara until it dies. I don't need anything more powerful/roomy etc, its only on 59k and its 8 years old so I'll have it until I'm 25 in 2010 and then get a pre-73 car as a project

Fuel isnt paticuarly bothering me but tax might be swaying it
Origonally was set on a 182 of CTR ep3 but after the tax business I am now considering tegs and 172's

182 doesn't cost anymore to tax than a 172 does it?

I assumed if I got one that was older and registered before the cut off date it would make a big difference

172's only started in 2001, if there were any before the cut off it would be a very very early one and in that disgusting shape.

Otherwise I shall only be looking back in 5 years time thinking oh I want something fast but the tax will be £400+ a year and the petrol over £2 per litre!!!

The way I look at it though, is when I'm older and can afford the finer things in life, due to my job etc, I will, and then I can have a performance car etc.
At the end of the day, a performance car is not the top of my priorities when I graduate, and I need to spend carefully for the next 5 years or so.
JR - I thought the mileage on your Corsa was quite low, especially for a 53 plate? I was kind of hoping you'd be selling it next year

tbh, a 12v GLS Corsa achieves all* those criteria.

I don't really give a fuck how much fuel the Corsa drinks
Add the fact that my Golf does 450 miles to a tank now, is pretty cheap motoring. Wouldn't fancy paying the cost of diesel. I get the cheapest pence per mile out of all of the cars at work and my mates now

Diesel doesn't work out that much more expensive though, when you actually add it up - only about £2 per fill up more, if that. Yet a small engines diesel car will surpass the MPG of the petrol equivalent.

I bet it's more than £2. That's about the difference between Unleaded and Super. That's about 4p iirc.
The news last week reckoned you have to do 40k a year in a diesel to make it work out cheaper. Not sure if they worked those figures out on clio/corsa/polo figures or bmw/audi though

Over 1800 miles with diesel costing 10p more than petrol I worked out that it would cost me £5 more to fuel my clio than my fabia.
