I don't fear for my life in my 12v - just know how to drive them tbh, and momentum at roundabouts etc is key
And to who-ever said it will sit at 70mph to 80mph all day granted, it probably will, but I hate the sound of it revving the nuts of the engine. It won't give the car longevity at all.

Yeah tbf after driving it for a day or so i worked out the momentum bit...basically rev the nuts off it and never let off the go pedal when changing gear.

And people wonder why 12v's never last

It's like any low speed cars tbh - rant the nuts off them just to keep up with your average car!
My old 1.1 8v 106 used to be the same it would take 5/6 seconds to get from 50 to 60 (and that was giving it the beans )

1.0'S are nippy imo, i drove my mates, and i was surprised at the power between changing from 2nd to 3rd,

Mum has a 1.0 12v, in my opinion underpowered and slow. Really gutless in first and second. Have only driven it about 150 miles and hated it. Scary to think she goes on the motorway in it
I know its a nippy town car, but on nsl roads they are dangerous.

Get to 60mph and 70mph they're fine on the motorway. Anything over 80mph and it gets dodgey. But any small with with 13x5 wheels on would be scary.
For those that quoted my comment about 12v's never lasting - people say that they're shit engines and never last. But that is because people to drive them hard. Respect the engine, and it won't go wrong. My not lifting off the throttle when changing gear as someone said, it isn't going to be good for any engine, let alone a small, totally non-performance 3 pot.

I'd imagine that'd probably damage the gearbox and clutch too Deano.
Anyone who did that is an idiot.
Anyways, yeah, my car takes ages to get from 70 - 80, sometimes can't even get it to 90, its taking so long, I run outta road!

without a doubt speedo's are definately out on the older cars when travelling at high speeds...
I was doing an indicated 112mph @ 5000rpm in my sport (1.6) and it was really struggling to get up to the 120 that they apparently do...
So I very much doubt that in a car with just over half the power with 3 people you would get anywhere near that speed

Your struggling to get 120 in a 1.6? Ive had 125 indicated no probs in my 1.4 on a private track, big hill though.

Having an induction kit in a 12v is more likely to slow it down

Gives a slight increase in torque, but nothing on BHP, along with straight through exhaust. Fact.

My 1.2 8v seems to accelerate the quickest between 70-80 mph, but feels slow at other speeds, but I got it to read 110mph on my speedo with drilled air box, straight through and 15" alloys, so I say I was doing 103mph max.

1.2 8v =
was down the biggest race track hill i have ever seen, and took about 10 minutes to get the speed up. I genuinly felt unsafe !
Your speedo must be out by MILES for it to say 110, as that on sat nav said 87

A 1.2 8v is supposed to be slower than an 1.0 12v, but Necro will say he struggles to catch up to me.
