my dad had a 1.8s which i drove a lot, loved the sund of that and theyre not that slow, yeah theyre not super fast but they have a fair pace i think 0-60 in 7 or 8 seconds but feel quicker and the driving position is so good!
great fun to kick the back end out in them as well!

wow that's cheap?

So 3k you drive in standard and drive out with 180 bhp?

So includes all fitting, management, boost pipes, special down pipes? etc...

Whats the reliability like? That could be quite

management is 1250 fitted and mapped.

that leaves 1750 for the rest. exhaust manifold is a 2nd hand item from another car that is modified to fit, turbo was 250 used, downpipe and exhaust mods were about 200, intercooler and boost piping came to about 350 and the rest was fitting costs and new sensors, lots of electrical work and some changes to the inlet system.

its not the pretties of turbo conversions but it works well and seems reliable even on the standard ecu at the moment running very low boost. Once the new ecu and loom go on we are polishing the boost pipes and getting some goodies to tidy it up a bit.

Over a grand for ecu and loom? Probably not under 1k but could be supercharged for alot less than most cars I imagine?

Not really suitable for everyday driving, but absolute fun and smile factor a-plenty!

I've had a little drive of one. For a car with 70k on the clock it drove loverly.

Think they are a bit dated though. Just something about them that makes me not want one

Used to drive loads of these at Mazda awsome little things!

I liked the older ones best tbh like the m reg and P reg examples..may not be the fastest thing on the road but boy are they a proper drivers car.

Well I own a mk2 1.8 S. LSD on this model, 143bhp 1050kg. Only got it a few month back.

There is quite a lot of supercharge/turbo kits floating about. The 1.8 engine comes in a turbo form in the Mazda 323 GT so there is a cheap conversion possible.

Yes they handle brilliantly. Don't think I could go back to FWD.

for 4K you could drive in and drive out with 280bhp in the form of an FD lump, much more potential ;-)

Ideal if you're a little fella. Not ideal if you're 6' 3''.

Brilliant little cars though.

If I remember correctly the turbos were done over here rather than at the factory Jim. I'll ask Jim. He'll know.

Has this ever actually been done? I've never heard of mx5's with rx7 engines before.

Got any vids? That'd be insane.
