yeah but kind of free role, althought everyone complained about him being on the right before he done well and scored goals.
Plus him and babel can keep changing, and with alonso and masch in the middle gives bit more balance and stability.
I dont like the thought of playing keane out wide as i think he is wasted as he's more of a final ball player than a creative wide man.
Still think we should have brought david silva in though, he would have been the ideal wide player
and must agree riera on the bench and babel must start!
I actually didnt mind him on the right, he scored something like 23 goals that season - but still feel to get the best out of him (and possibly Torres) we need him in the middle driving forward and giving those balls to Torres as he was last year.
My formation isnt really with either Babel or Keane out wide, they are just behind Torres and both have more of a free role to come deep if they want, switch sides, and also play right up field, etc. And that allows Gerrard behind in that free role still.
but to do that would exploit the full backs and leave the midfield a bit down on numbers as basically keane and babel will be playing up top, because they wouldnt track back and if gerrard was caught out up field then would prob leave 4 on 2 in the middle.
I like the idea, just this this way would balance it out bit more

Dixon does get it right in the last line though - it isnt where Rafa will play Keane on a regular basis and he was just there to do a job for the team.

It's all about deciding who's more effective where for us. Gerrard is more effective on the right that keane so keane needs to play off torres and gerrard (right) and babel or riera (left) need to play advanced wider roles imo and switch about.
Alonso, mascherano can balance up slightly more defensively and the standard back 4 depending on who's in better form out of skrtel and agger (although agger adds more going forwards which is a bonus with alonso and mascherano being very defensively minded).

We cant have it both ways though, you either play Gerrard and Babel as wide players and therefore wont get caught out, or you play them as free-role players who start on those sides and we do get caught out.
I dotn see why we would ever get caught out with them all up field, its simple tactics for them to know to get back, or not to go forward if others are - plus with two defensive midfielders in the middle in Masch and Alonso we should always have atleast 4-5 men from midfield back to cover and break.
I just think its the same thing putting Babel and Gerrard out wide as it is putting Keane there - as you either wont get the best out of Keane or you wont get the best out of the other two.

Who is more effective for the team though - Keane in the middle or Gerrard?!
An easy answer IMO given the form of Gerrard and Torres together last season.

Maybe we should revert to 4-4-2 now we have riera and play him on the left, pennant on the right and keane off torres with gerrard playing advanced CM and masch DM. Wouldn't suit torres or keane though but at least we could have all 3 of them in there favoured positions

Yeah it is a tough one, and no doubt whatever formations we all pick Rafa will go and pick something totally different!
Hopefully he can find a way to keep Gerrard off the right, and Babel and Keane in their best positions!

That could actually work, I mentioned about playing 3 at the back when we signed Skrtel but hadnt given it a second thought.

That has been mentioned on RAWK but replace babel and riera with dossena and degen as wingbacks.

It may not be needed with the width in midfield and the fact Masch is always over wide if defence when needed.
My main worry would be Babel so wide, as he isnt a wide player at all and think would stiffle his development being made to play out there.

Would rather Riera and Babel on the pitch over those two!

-----------------------VDS-----------------------
Brown-----Ferdinand--------Vidic--------Evra
Ronaldo----Hargreaves----Anderson----Tevez
-------------- Rooney--------- Berbatov--------
Possibly with Carrick Interchanging with Anderson's place
SUBS: Foster, R Da Silva, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, nani, Fletcher
-----------------------VDS-----------------------
Brown-----Ferdinand--------Vidic--------Evra
Ronaldo----Hargreaves----Anderson----Nani
--------- Rooney/tevez----- Berbatov--------
Subs: Foster, R Da Silva, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Fletcher, Rooney/Tevez
I would have been happy with Tevez on the bench, but considering how he's started this season and in pre-season, it would be rooney i would have on the bench

Not much wrong with that, although the captain should be rio for me
No nani in the squad? Possibly have him in instead of giggs on the bench

Maybe strick but at the moment Nani has no end product, and I can only include 18 players so it's a tough one.
Also i'd give the captaincy to Rooney, give the lad something to make him grow up and give him a bit of responsibility to help him along, he is passionate and acts like a captain anyway so why not?
I can't see Tevez playing much anymore with the arrival of Berbatov unless Ferguson is thinking of going 442 or get this 433 with the reality that he may loose C.Ronaldo very soon.

I see you like your South Americans Jiz
Wouldnt argue too much with your choice for us, other than possibly Aurellio and Lucas, but both are good enough to be in there too.

James
Kaboul Campbell Distin
Johnson Traore
Diop Diarra Davis
Crouch Defoe
Subs - Ashdown, Hreiğarsson, Utaka, Thomas, Sahar, Belhadj, Kranjčar.
It seems we're going to give 3 5 2 a go, which means its going to be hard for harry to find a place for niko kranjcar, who was class in the first half of last season before we switched to 442, it doesnt seem to suit him as well as 433. I think he'll be mainly used in the home games where we can sacrifice diop or davis in midfield. Otherwise we look pretty solid with this line up.

I agree, but that doesnt mean he suits the system that best suits your team.
