Many will argue this though.
Dave, how comes your loosing 5lb ft over andys engine with exactly the same power? Do you run a different cam profile or different length bodies?
V-max for a 214bhp 1.6 engine is 135mph in ? (bruntingthorpe, think its 1.5 miles).....
0-60 of 6 seconds.

That should be good them with a decent suspension set-up
Would aftermarket management give better gains ?

I dont think it would, but not sure. As long as it's mapped properly by someone who knows what there doing.

Cams and headwork left for me then!
How much difference does headwork actually make? I guess not much to peak figures, but the overall driveability is much better?

Some say lexmaul, some say mantzel type. Lexmaul is an even spread of power whereas the mantzel type is peaky, 4K and above but sounds the nuts!!
The mantzel type replicas can be bought very cheap so i'd go for one of those purely for the saving.

When i put the head on mine it was very smooth to drive, better fuel consumption and seemed to like to rev a bit more.

Disagree, mine was totally different with and without the remap, made about 8bhp more with that ECU in.

Surely if the cams etc have been changed then your best off getting it mapped regardless of which inlet it is using

Its a mystery, unless you overlap the 2 graphs from the 2 engines taken on the same dyno on the same day then its irrelevant. I do use a vastly different cam profile, but 5ft/lb is nothing, different dynos have a +/- of 15% sometimes. People say mine (Dyno Dynamics in general) under reads compared to others but people get so hung up on BHP figures for no reason, in reality its what happens between 1000 rpm and 9000 rpm that is important. Look at V-tec. It makes a very poor, sluggish torque and power curve for 3/4 of the rev range then goes a bit mental. compare a 1600cc vtec engine with a well set up 1600cc 'normal' engine and at the point just before it 'comes on vtec' the non vtec engine is usually producing as much as 30-40 bhp more!

Mine didnt, and was amazing
also, apart from a unichip etc ? i havent seen a remap on a standard ecu unless its a genric one, which surely wont help with any mods ?

Probably not JR, but even a generic one would give it a little extra you would think
I know for definate MSD in blackpool can live map the standard ECU on the 1.6's. Costs about £500 for a session. Spoke to them 12/18 months ago.

Because bhp = torque*RPM / 5252.
