The V6 is barely a better engine. It's not really a V6 either and they are thirsty as fook, for not much gain.

V5 engines....

Pro's

smooth to drive
Different...

Cons

Leak oil from all available areas.. just did a headgasket on a V5 passat about 3 weeks ago due to a massive oil leak

Thirsty for no reason

Bottom ends seem to be weak, they start to knock for some reason

early 150ps V5's were wank, replaced by the 170ps version which is slightly better but still not fantastic

If you are after a Mk4 golf look at 1.8T 1.8 20V (if you arent after anything quick) Derv's are all pretty decent

AVOID:
2.0 8v
V5
Sorry guys the V6 also not much better than the V5

Also to add fuel to the fire.. Mk4 R32's are proper crap...
