Plasmas only looked better close up because they weren't 1080p and didn't have to upscale the picture so much.
Plasmas aren't close to lcd unless you spend a lot more.
good to know, I was all on for a lcd just some reading done last night that altered my thinking. What should you look for when deciding? I've been looking at contrast ratio quite a lot but not sure if i'm putting too much emphasis on it?! Really struggling to decipher what is good and what is not so good when it comes to these tvs?
I personally prefer LCD, imo the plasma quality is nothing close unless you're spending 2k, they're also heavy and use loads of energy and, as i've just been informed by a mate who's texting me, the cheaper plasmas are still not full HD.
The majority of people won't know the difference between plasma and lcd and won't care what resolution it is though.
Don't pay too much attention to contsrast ratios, just go to a shop and get one you like the look of.

Cheers John, that's what I initially did and it seemed to correlate with the contrast ratio, I was decided on a 37 until the other day! IIRC there was a 32 one that looked really good.

I can't see why you wouldn't want a 32" in your room, it beats having to squint and try and see anything on that tele! You need 20/20 vision to make anything out on that!
Wouldn't be as bad if it was mounted on the ceiling..
800x600 pixels and its piss easy to read, dont do coursework on it though as that would be a bastard , have a laptop for that and a 2nd desktop, this one was just under the stairs and thought why not, beats buying dvd's when you can download and full screen on the tele. And to the person saying its in the worst place, it isnt, can see it clearly and there isnt any wires showing. That is all

lets put it this way i bought a plasma for 1.8k 2 years ago its 47" and it has been fantastic in that time its not full hd but i truly believe the picture is as good.....
reason i know this is in my bedroom i have LG hd ready 37" tv and in kitchen i have 19" hd DMTECH, and my computer moniter is 19" LG tv NOT moniter and none in my eye are any better than my plasma....
plus my kitchen on one has been changed as pixels stuck in the bottom corner, my bedroom one screen froze and had to be changed and my computer screen was changed twice as first one out box stuck pixels, took it back they swopped it and same thing happened to second one straight out the box, and the 3rd one has one pixel stuck but its right in bottom corner........... all LCD TV'S SO MY NEXT BUY WILL STILL BE PLASMA FOR LIVING ROOM

How do people find tesco's Technika brand? Looking at a 37" HD ready one for 400 sheets
Or would I be better getting a 32" Sony Bravia?
