you can only put £3600 a year into an ISA cant you? So you wont be able to pay anything into it after 9 months

thats £3600 tax free, over that and you are paying tax thats all.

Been on a bit of a savings drive the last few months. Try to put between £650-£800 away a month for a house deposit.

I was planning on getting a mortgage this year and never figured i'd need more than a 5% deposit so I used to just blow my money on crap, gutted now

ah right thanks.

What happens after 12 months is up? Do you set up a new ISA and start paying into that to get another £3600 tax free? Or can you add another £3600 tax free to your existing ISA as long as its a different financial year?

I started few months ago, looking to save a deposit for a house, had to take out some unexpected bills from that so its less than I would have liked!

Few weeks ago found out I was being made redundant so I'm saving as much as possible incase I have to live off my savings!

Been saving about £600 a month, GF is also putting some away a month but £100 - £200 at the moment other than that we both live at home with very little out goings

Rent
Phone Bill
Car
Odds and sods on credit card (paid off every month)

You can't put more than £3600 a year into an ISA.

They don't want the overheads of having to calculate which bit of your ISA is tax free and which bit isn't so they simply say you can only put your tax free allowance in there.

You have to have a separate savings account if you want to save any more.

Doesn't it depend on the type of ISA?
I'm sure when I took mine out there were 2 types offered, 1 of which you could pay more into but involved shares or something

Managed to save £1500 last month, back of the net.

Up until now I haven't saved lots, just a oner a month that DD into a Savings Account. I've bought so much stuff over the past year I decided 2009 was a year to save, I'm not going to go anal and not go out etc, just not buy stuff I can go without. I have alot to show for the past year though, better than spunking it drinking every weekend

I've calmed down at the weekends, going out just one night instead of two - so my bar bill has reduced...

Cutting out silly mileage has made a noticeable difference too...

I try to put about 1/4 of what I see every month away into savings for a rainy day

People saying they are saving £1500 pm....

I was formally on a higher takehome wage than this, so know roughly how much you guys have to be earning, especially you London people....

£30k+ At the very very least
