Sweet! Ive been ofered one of these today on a S plate with 61k, odd bits of damage to it, and its a Cat C so needs VIC, was offered it for £200, so you got a bargain mate!!
Whats the x16xe like in it? Mileage etc, im after a low mileage one, thats why i was going to buy the above mentioned Tigra but couldnt afford it.

judging by mobby's hassles id not say it was cheaper, neither easier. also result is a slower car than a 20xe conversion.
fail to see any benefit at all. everyone seems to be forcing this at people and yet having driven many 2.0 ecofeck vectras and 1.8 ecofeck vectras i fail to understand how this is even worth considering. possibly in the same class as putting a 1.4 engine into a 1.3 nova. all the effort for no rewarding end product.

I agree tbh, fair play chuck a 1.8 in something like mobby's, which is a 1.2?? But i wouldnt take out a 1.6 to replace with a 1.8 for gains of what, 20-30bhp? Obviously the 1.8 could then be tuned, but id prefer to spend more on a 1.6 tuned, or a 20xe.

but as warren said, even a redtop conversion in my car would be just as hard!

The 1.8 small block is a very different beast to the 1.4 and 1.6.. Same physical size etc. but its a long stroke engine (more torque) the oil pump has a much higher flow rate (more reliable) and the head is modern design that makes the old XE's looks pre-historic.

i offered mobby the conversion for £750, with engine, as bolts up to standard mounts/gearbox
xe conversion would be about £1250...
i cant denie the redtop is a great engine - becasue it is!
mobbys having hassels, but davey didnt...
these engines are tunable like the redtop, being standard 123bhp, with a few simple breather mods and a remap, will see 140bhp...
main reason i think if the fact you can pick a low mileage engine up for as much as a redtop (probley been around the clock)
what do you mean about the vectras nic?

yeah ok so they do......
but a 2.0 vectra will be of very similar weight to a 1.8 vectra correct? whats faster? the 2.0 one. so why on earth is a 1.8 in a similar weight car ie a corsa going to be faster than a 20xe corsa?
its not

wiring is just has hard on a redtop into a 1.2 16v as a small block
its wiring up the fuel pump relay, totally different set up to the rest of the range
let alone not having to take the gearbox out!
