Lol, your using the clay for the wrong purposes.
The idea of the clay is that it removes anything bonded to the surface that washing alone wont remove.
The paint only needs lightly going over with it to prep it. What your doing seems to be using the clay like a DA polisher lol! Seriously it takes half an hour to clay a car, your pissing in the wind with what your doing - buy a DA and get better results with less cramp!

After 2 hours I was halfway through the bonnet and a neighbor asked me what i've been up to stood in one place for so long. So I told her what i've been doing and said that i've done half of the bonnet so far.... guess which side i've done?..... WELL!!! She only went and said the wrong bloody side
How long is it meant to take? I've been doing it on my Arosa which is silver so it does show up every little mark and I will not leave any mark on there. Well unless it's a bad stone chip then i've not got much choice although it does seam to make it a little smaller
Oh and no after pics as it was dark when I finished. I'm sure that you'd not even be able to tell but I know it's been done and that's all that matters.
Your meant to wash the car BEFORE you clay it

3 hours As Wrighty says you did wash it first didn't you?
The point of claying is just to get rid of bonded contaminents(tar, sap etc etc) to prepare for polish and wax, I'd be surprised if you've got any paint left on that bonnet after 3 hours!! . What difference did you expect your neighbour to notice? At this stage its about improving the surface of the paint not the appearance as such. As said you should be able to do the whole car in less than an hour, if your taking this long with the bonnet imagine how long the bottoms of the doors will take!!

I bought my megs clay bar kit a few months ago now but not used it.
Is ths the correct procedure - Wash, chamois dry, spray detail youget with the kit and clay, wash and then chamois again, polish them Wax to finish
I have the Leon to do as the roads round my way were tarred not to long ago and I have loads of wee tar spots on the body work now.
How long should it roughly take to clay a car of that size???

Yeah thats right Eck. It will take as long as it takes till you get rid of all the shit that is stuck to the car.
Just go over it till your happy that its all gone, will take half an hour to an hour probably.

I wouldn't bother using a clay bar for getting rid of tar. You can get something called Autosmart Tardis from polishedbliss. Spray it on, leave for 30 seconds or so to melt the tar then wipe off. Loads easier than dicking around with a clay bar

That sounds good, must be pretty potent stuff to melt tar, can it damage the paint work if left on to long???

Yeah it does work. I use it on my car.
Found this pic of Clark from polished bliss using it

Not the best picture but you can see the tar melting then it just wipes off. For larger or more stubborn bits you sometimes have to reapply

And yes its pretty potent stuff. You need to use it outside really... I was pouring into a spray bottle inside and ended up very light headed
I haven't damaged my paint when using it. Just give a polish and wax afterwards to make sure its all been removed

Yep, like Matty says get Tardis, brilliant stuff am I right in saying it can only be bought in quite large quantitites?
3 hours claying a bonnet? I clayed the entire Astra in about 45 mins using Megs Final Touch as a lubricator.
