Although I agree it is a bad time to look for a new job but IMO if you can get one (that's the hard bit), then why not take it?

Im in same sort of field. How much you on a hour?

Before tax its about £11/12 ph, but thats nowhere near what you can earn. Its just that the pensions/share schemes/holiday and sick pay policies outway the extra money in my opinion. As opposed to going out on your own as a contracter. where do you work mate?

He only works around 7-8 months of the year now, partly due to wanting to slow down and partly to do with the work getting less and less. He's worked all over the world though, that's all he's done all his life so he often gets the first call to be on the jobs as he's very experienced.

There is a welder at my place like that, been all over the world, rekoned he use to earn £20 quid a hour in the 70's welding oil rigs. Earns about £11 now

Them sort of jobs arent ones that constantly comearound though, as the world has already boomed so to speak.

I enjoy plateing with abit of welding involved, but i just think its a dyeing trade and wanting out. Thinking for the future

Production Manager, after my A-levels I had no interest in going into higher education as I hated not having any money. I got a 6 week contract at a large food production company as a packer to keep me going, 10 years later I am still here and have 300 people working for me.
