how anyone can have confudsed the situation for holliganism is absurd! i watched the itv documentary a few weeks ago... think cosmo got it spot on, its not all down to the police but the buck has to stop with them, made some appalling decisions and they had plenty of cctv etc to realise. the dad of the 2 young girls who died in the documentary has a go at a policeman saying how packe dit was in the main pen and how quiet in the others and is promptly told to piss off... if thats true then it proves the incompetance!
Very very sad Anyone whos been in any sort of a crush (even the tube to some extent) knows how horrible it is and to have been penned in unable to breathe etc must have been atrocious
I sat silently at my desk at 3.06!
Oh, and the use of the word pen... a pen is no way to hold people, cant believe people ever thought it was!
Oh and alos, hte the way noone mentoions those people killed in the many stadium collapse sin africa, equally as sad IMO

Given what was going on up & down the country in the late 70's with regards to hooliganism I can see why at first a few people being on the pitch people will have thought it was.

yeah get what youre saying but you can see the crush quite clearly in the pictures, should have been obvious that it was more than that, imo
also why do people keep saying 70s, hillsborough happened in 1989 :/

I think if you watch the footage though Danny, its fairly obvious if you watch it for more than 30 seconds that its blatantly something wrong and not a bunch of hooligans.
It certainly wasnt something that took 30mins to decide, and thats how long it was until the police allowed the ambulance on.

Oh yeah I'm not saying it should have taken 30 minutes to realise what was going on, just right at the very start folk running on to the pitch might have been seen as hooliganism. Like you say, shouldn't have taken so long for it to be worked out it wasn't, and something should have been done about it.
Even from the TV pictures you can see people being crushed, so bearing in mind CCTV will have been installed as well, its impossible to see why the Police didn't act quicker get people out of the stand and get them some medical attention.

It was on ITV 4 last night, just called Hillsborough.
Its a docu-drama-film type thing.
