Rally Driver or DJ - Former, typical boys dream and the latter because it would be ace to play infront of a few thousand people and the general rush.
Although at one point was looking at becoming a pilot (and joining the RAF) and the old man offered me a PPL instead of driving lessons but turned it down in favour of getting into the music/media industry.
kurt - best thing to do is to head down the non-paid work experience route. Don't just stick to emails either, actually write to radio stations/studios etc. And don't just stick to radio stations etc try and get experience in any part of the industry, like Roadie'ing, tea boy/caretaker for a media company (TV/Radio), even things like shopping assistant for HMV etc
And any experience you do, put it on your CV (obviously don't include every work exp/job, keep it short to around 5/8 of the best jobs/exp).
But like you've found it's not an easy industry to get into, it can take years before someone will give you a break.

Never really thought about it tbh.
Just wanted to do what my dad done from high school because I knew it would give me a decent standard of life & i'd enjoy it. After a rocky start, & getting slightly side tracked im getting to be the dirty oiler ive always wanted to be

Yeh I've thought that.
I wanted to be a pilot when I was younger.
Now I don't really know - I just want to be at the top of my game in whatever I do.
P.s. Andrew your dream job is to be an IT support monkey? You need some ambition!

What I'm doing just now is kinda my dream job - get to play with anything motorsport related (software, dynos, shaker rigs etc), do a bit of teaching and also get to race aswell.
Kinda want to join the RAF or army at some stage.
