Well the mk2 RS is more powerful, faster, and just as lairy looking, so i'd say its pretty close.
its not about the power etc, its just not a special car like the cosworths were, and never will be.
Okay, but going back to what i said, its the modern day cosworth, in insurance terms at least.
not a chance. id bet a cossie would cost far more to insure than a focus with a bodykit. one is a cosworth, the other is a bodykit with an engine conversion. one special, other is very friday night car park doing j-turns.

You really don't get what i'm saying do you?
I'm not saying they're directly comparable, but the Mk2 RS is to Ford now, what the Escort Cosworth was to Ford when it was first released.
Just incase anyone is slightly interested...

I'd love to see a cossie against one, wonder if it would be a repeat of the infamous Top Gear episode

yes i get you. your saying that the new focus rs is like the cosworth back in the day. but its not, and never will be.
in terms of corsasport discussions. a ford cant be classed as special, or remotely exciting unless mr ford, aka jr makes loads of posts about them.
there is just no way a fwd volvo engined bodykit is fords modern day idea of the cosworth. maybe your right. probably better off asking the cosworth people if they think its the modern day version or just some lame bodykit being badged as an rs.

I guess thats where we're going wrong here
You're intitled to your opinion, but so am i.
I know the Focus RS is the modern day equivelant to the Escort Cosworth. It might not be as "special" as you put it (yet), but give it 10 years.
Anyway, i'll report back here tomorrow with pics.

Its nice and like I say I do like it but it cant be compared to a Cosworth Escort, it just shares too many similarities to a normal Focus!
The RS is technically a reworked Focus with a beefy engine and a kit.
The Escort Cosworth was soooooooo much different to any production Escort (which was an absolutely shit car!)

I don't know that much about the Escort cosworth, but mechanically speaking, wasn't the Escort cosworth an RS2000 with a turbo?
And aesthetically, it was just an Escort with a bodykit.
Anyway, you guys are getting side tracked. When i said it was a modern day equivelant i was meaning, its the fastest and most power hatchback Ford available. And its got an RS badge. Do you see what i mean?

tbh they are nice, but no nicer than st's where when they came out. i would love to own either tbh, but id far rather own an escort cosworth, what nic is saying is the escort cosworth was so far ahead of the rest of the competition etc when it came out, where as the focus rs is no better than the rest of the sporty turbo hatchbacks on the market...........least i think he means that

No its not a rs2000 with a turbo and a bodykit, it does iirc not share more than 1 or 2 panels with a rs2000.

i agree with Ash and Nic.
Focus Rs was in no way a comparison to the cossie.
Drive train alone is reason enough.
I want a cossie

Serious?
1) Sierra Floorpan
2) Sierra 4WD system
3) Extended rear wings to accommodate the extra length
4) Cosworth Engine
5) Borg Warner T5 box
6) Homologation rear wing
And Im no expert...........there are probably hundreds of differences all as major as the ones above!!!

Im still gagging for a test drive!!
I think it will carry a similar amount of hype as the cossie did. The escort wasnt exactly an animal in standard tune it was what people done with them tunning wise & the awesome chassis & 4WD system than made them great.

I understood it tbh. People getting their knickers in as twist too easily.
Escort Cossie = High end midsized hatchback Ford back in the day.
Focus RS = High end midsized hatchback Ford now.
