Would be absolute gash for travelling to work on, unless he worked on a quarry or something.

Where did I say I needed a commuter? It's more for fun than anything else!

Really tempted to go for the rockhopper, like the guy was saying it's not much more & you get a frame that features on £1000 bikes, compared to one that is featured on £300 bikes

Hydraulic brakes, decent frame, good shocks. Still waaayyy more than I planned to spend but 0% & free goodies makes it hard for me to think otherwise

Question is, silver or red?

Red.

Think you are making the right choice. Saves you deciding in a few months time that you want something better if you just get it now

That's why I'm just going all out, it's only £60 down & then £44 a month. Compared to £45 & then $34. I'll not miss the extra at all

Silver.

And the Rockhopper is awesome if your budget will stretch that far - I used to have one and did loads on it!

Me 5 years ago in Wales.

Right mate as promised i got the full spec on both bikea and literaly the only differences are

The sport has x4 rear mech, the pedals are steel cage, and the brake leaves are standard linier pull cables

The comp disk has x5 rear mech alloy cage pedals and avid hydrolic disks

I called specialised and got the full technical spec on it

So if theres anything else you kneed to know ive got it here haha

In my opinion the comp is well worth the extra 50 odd quid and you wont regret it seeing as its only 449.99

As i say if theres anything else you need to know just ask mate

Rockhopper is definatly worth it, the ONLY thing that lets it down are the tektro hydraulic brakes, which really dont work at all

Rockhopper is deffo worth ot but ots a bit of a waot for the 2010 stock iirc

And as my brother saod its the tektro hydrolic brakes that are a massive let down
They constantly feel spongey and setting them up right takes for ever too

The hardrock has the avids whch run perfect to be honest

Plus the tektros have had a bad reputation with pistons failing on them

Sorry i know i cnt spell bt im on my ipod and its impossible to type hence all the typos

So the brakes aren't as good as the rest of the bike, but the rest of the bike is great?

Sounds good enough for me Thanks for your help

Just need to make a decision on the colour

Matt H - where we used to work, we'd do a 'part exchange' on some bits on the original bike. It was more tyres, grips, that sort of thing - speak to the shop nicely and they might trade the Tektro's for something a bit better!

Are the hydraulics easy to upgrade? I'll ask about it, but I'm worried I'll get my pants pulled down on the price

How much are they chargeing for thw rockhopper??
Brakes are a piss easy switch
As long as you dont pull the leaver befor there over the disk otherwise the pads can stick together

And bleeding them can take the piss but its easy to switch

Shimano deore disk brakes are 43 quid eatch and there spot on mate

Yeah. If you buy a bike with disc brakes (some Specializeds come disc ready but with V-brakes) pretty much any other brand will go straight on (plus any adapters that might be required!).

I'd just buy the Rockhopper, run the Tektro brakes, see how you get on, then upgrade when they're shot or you need new pads. tbh, although people say the Tektro ones are shit, it depends what they're used to. If you aren't used to anything disc or hydraulic, they will seem amazing.

If by pritty much anything will work on them you mean you can just buy new calipers and keep the disks? You would be rong. The disk and calipers all have different brakeing surfaces and depths and the disks then selfs have different widths and sizes just as they have on cars

However if you ment buy the disk and calipers and the pritty much deffo will fit? Then you would be right
You can get adapters to fit 99% of brakes to any any every bike
And when you buy them it is a case on unbolting and rebolting
Makeing sure to use a tourque wrench on the disk bolts!!
Haha

EDIT: also i like your idea of waiting till they get fecked then change them
Might aswell get your moneys worth mate. Although saying that you might be able to get a bit of a deal if you buy them then and there. You never know
