Not necessarily:

quote:

Engine
Gearbox
Loom
ECU
Power steering bracket
Drive shafts (see below for more info)
Front engine mount
Modified gear linkage
16v Header tank (he's already got)
1.6 16v Fuel Pump & fuel clips (he's already got)
XE exhaust
Cavalier inner CV's
ARB Spacers (only needed if keeping ARB)
1.0 12v top hose for the right hand side of the rad (thermostat housing)
Rear gear box mount spacer
Transducer for gearbox ( to fit on mechanical speedo drive for electronic speedo) (you just change the clocks)
Rear coolant gallery (standard xe from Calibra or Cavalier is fine) (comes with the engine)
Fuel pipes that attach to the fuel rail (free from the scrappers)
Alternator (comes with the engine)
Alt bracket (comes with the engine)
Alt adjuster (comes with the engine)
PAS pump (comes with the engine or the 1.6 one is the same)
2 v belts (comes with engine if it has that setup)
Twin v bottom pulley (as above)
Ecotec adapter plate and pipe or powercap (unless you want to cut bulkhead and use sfi box
2.0 Cavalier disks, calipers and pads
coilovers (decent springs and shocks will do)

All this will add up to what I imagine would be around the same...

have you done many xe conversions?

you wouldnt need half the things on that list, and for an xe i wouldnt really bother strengthening the shell either, as it wouldnt have the torque to do any damage

sr-91 your list was not quite right so ive edited, some of those thing you will already have.seriously it will be cheaper, easier and still faster to drop a red top in.but if you wan't to tune the 1.6 go for it.

Drive shafts (see below for more info) - Can use the ones you already have.

Modified gear linkage - can be modified yourself.

Fuel pipes that attach to the fuel rail - Fuel pipes cost buggar all from motor factors.

2 v belts - again, buggar all from motor factors.

2.0 Cavalier disks, calipers and pads - can source from ebay/scrappers.

They are common for a reason, why spend £2k to make the same power as a £500 conversion?

Thats because most people have the sense to see that its not worth spending £2k on the 1600 to get 150bhp, when you could spend £2k on a XE conversion and end up with near 200bhp.
