Mate that is a phenomnial difference, absolutely boss. I would keep it and get some use of out of it. You can sell it in the future if you need to but you can't buy the happiness that using that after its done will bring you!!

I've been a househusband looking after our 3 kids for just over 2 years and now the kids will be at school after the holidays I've been looking for a job.
I'm not a qualified mechanic but I added my Alvis project (with pics) to my c.v. and a garage owner has seen it and wants to interview me....to be an apprentice......with one day a week at college.
the wage is national minimum (but any income would be good as we've been living of the wife's wage)
but the qualifications would be good......would you go for it?

Only you can answer that one I think. If you're not desperate for a higher paid shot and you think you'll enjoy it, why not?

With the way things are at the moment, i'd say go for it, and if anything else comes up you want, leave it, if not, at least you're getting somewhere

I'd go for it...you've got the time, you can survive on wifes wage and this will be some extra money coming in. And once trained you have got a trade behind you too and can start earning good money. Go for it.

Go for it, if only for the qualifications.
Then maybe have a look around the area for coachbuilders/restoration specialists, with that in youir portfolio I'd imagine you'd certainly get a lot of interest.

this was the story behind me getting this car.........(taken from my thread on oldclassiccar.co.uk)
for a start a big thankyou to my wife, she broke her near side wing mirror on her beloved 1996 rover 214 (bubble shape).
why a big thankyou for this? well I'll tell you.........
over the last year I've been 'doing up' a 1996 vauxhall corsa (my everyday car) so with buying parts for it, I'm 'well in' with my local auto factors.
when the wife broke her wing mirror, I ordered a new mirror glass from our local auto factors and when i collected it, Alan (the owner) told me about this Alvis that had been stood in another customers garage for a while. Alan said the bloke wouldn't want a lot for it so I got the address and set off to see what it was like!
well it was like walking into a time machine, one complete Alvis TA14 with the Mulliner saloon body, i wanted it so badly so I got in contact with the bloke who had it and this was the story from him......
My father bought it brand new in 1948 for £650, he passed away quite a time ago and I could do with the garage space, It was last used in 1975, then driven into the garage and left.
I asked what he wanted for it and the reply was......if you shift it, you can have it.
so I got on with organising a mate with a trailer and we set off to get her
the reason I need to thank the wife for smashing her mirror is that if she hadn't, I may never have got this piece of motoring history.
the wife decided to call her 'little mary anne' due to LMA on her no. plate, but she ain't such a little car
more here if your interested........

cheers
waters
p.s....yeah I'm going to have a crack at that job.....even if it is only for the qualifications
wish me luck

well, had the Alvis for its 3rd MOT in january and it passed but had an advisory.......the front leaf springs are weak (but they had lasted 63 years)......so on friday last week I fitted some new leaf springs that I'd had made.
I had to have my new springs (front ones only) made from scratch at a cost of £700 so for those wanting to buy a classic car.....it can be expensive at times.
hopefully they'll last another 63 years

Better than the Merc/BMW springs that last 5-7 years!
