My Boxer has a huuuuge cage, so big i can sit in it and still have plenty of room above my head, and he isnt a small dog. He only gets left in it when we go out, he sleeps on my bed at night. The only reason he still goes in it is that he keeps eating all my Belkin extension cables.

If there has been a decent attempt made at training them and they still do it I can see a need for it, I'd personally use a room with a child gate though.
Just in a cage in general before they've had a chance though I don't see the point.

First, you must understand what the crate represents to the dog. Dogs are by nature den creatures -- and the crate, properly introduced, is its den. It is a safe haven where it does not need to worry about defending territory. It is its own private bedroom which it absolutely will not soil if it can help it. Judicious use of the crate can alleviate a number of problems, stop others from ever developing, and aid substantially in housetraining.
i also have the 48" crate which is one of the largest you can buy, that cage is just for the pup at night he will have a bigger one soon

Ok so provide him with an area that he can call his own, its called a bed! You dont need to shut him in
he has a bed oh and guess what, it fits perfectly into the crate

None of our dogs ever had a cage. Not even the Dobermann. And they've all been perfectly fine.

Im not going to scream anything.
See difference is pup cant open the door can he? plus the size difference between a room and a child and a pup and a crate is quite different. Unless you live in a one roomed apartment.
