Both idiots.
Car thats worth a grand, crash it and claim... you will bump up your premium £500+ and probably have a £500 excess too.
If i crashed a car worth under 5k id either pay the few hundred it would cost to fix it to save a claim on my file, or say it was nicked and burn it out then claim on TPFT.

insurance prices come up ok for 1.6?
As your young, first car and only want to keep it for one year- why not just get a 1.2 or something as the insurance wont be crippiling then
urmm they are like £1400 fully comp for a 1.6... which seems cheap imo...??
Why would you go fully comp on a car worth a grand?
£1400 is pretty good imo, I paid £1300 for my first year fully comp
Dizzy, I have been fully comp this year and last (both years I've had the/a car), in one instance it was a good job because I needed a new windscreen. Also my mate was crashed into a couple of years ago and he was TPFT with Direct Line and because of not being FC he had to go through so much hassle to sort the claim out, that they said they would usually do if he was FC.

That new AT beta is very annoying in that the enlarge image thing doesn't work for me when you click on pictures, but from the thumbnails it looks like it has a V-grille on a pre-facelift bumper...

Most insurance companys give windscreen cover anyway or for an additional fee of like £50. And it should make no difference to the length or complexity of your claim wether you are tpft or fully comp.
Very rarely is it cheaper fully comp, esp for new drivers. If the accident is your fault then depending on the level of damage it will be as cheap to pay to repair the car yourself.... on a £1000 corsa theres fuck all point in going fully comp

I wrote of my 5k car and it put my insurance up by £30 for the 3 years I had to declare after it, significantly cheaper than 5k, you have no concept of the real world, the roids are going to your head.

Does her insurance cover her to drive other cars, most FC ins doesnt cover you for that anymore.
Deposit? On the car? insurance?

I paid about £120/month for a £1300 quote. That wasn't monthly through the insurance though, I paid for the year's insurance on my mum's credit card then got a 1 year loan out to pay it monthly. The interest rate was a bit lower so I think it saved a few bob.

Imo unless you know it's a complete minter it's not worth going that far for a car. What if you get there and it's a heap? 280 miles and a day wasted.
I got mine from 15 miles away

Well obviously you can't sort the insurance after you drive it back, because then you would be driving without insurance.

Even if she is insured to drive other cars the car has to be insured by somebody else (in 99% of situations)

Basically find a car not too far from you, go and see it with a mate who knows something about cars (as if it was just left to you then you'll probably end up being sold an actual donkey), if its all good leave a deposit. Come back and sort insurance and the rest of your cash. Go back a few days later and drive it home.

Or if you really cant go back more than once, find a day insurance company that insures people your age and do that if the car is any good.
