Marine is a salt water tank, cold water and need different equipment.

Tropical is warm non-salt water, and you dont need anything special other than a heater and filter.

Sound, cheers.

What sort of set up would red bellied piranhas need?

And Ste W, what sort of fish are you going for?

Tropical, they'll also need a decent sized (3ft length min) within a year as will hit 6-8" very quickly.

Glad that it's the easier setup then.

Doing my room up soon and I've been looking at getting a tropical type of animal, was looking at snakes as well. But figured piranhas might be more entertaining

My marine tank crashed a few months ago, just started it up again today. Only got a 12G nano tank.

Got myself 5kg of live sand, and a single 4kg piece of live rock today, along with 50litres of salt water. came to over 80 quid!!! The rock was 60!

I forgot how expensive marine fish keeping is!!

Looks smart tho

26-27c is the optimal temp if not running a cooler, other wise about 25c is normal, although they can run as low as 21c, it all really depends what fish or corals you have in the tank as some need it cooler than others

One minute, so why the fuck do you need a cooler when air temp is often less than 18?

in the summer months the water temp can sore well above 30c and with the metal halides it doesnt take much, the cooler keeps the tank at one temp so it doesnt get too warm, even a 1c change in temp over a short time period can corse catastrophic consiquences to both fish and corals

normal rooms dont have fishtanks with metal halides above them, the heat off the metal halides is far more than 26c,

Far from it.

Corals are boring, a decent planted tropical tank looks 100000x better than a marine.
