Buy a clio, get in it, then kill yourself!

Would be a waste of money in my opinion.

Would it be cool to stick an M3 badge on a normal 3-series? No. Your answer is in there somewhere.

Thats ridiculous. The question wasnt, should I buy a lower spec clio and put a v6 badge on it.

Well that's debateable, I mean if you stuck one on a boggo 316, yeah thats stupid, but maybe a standard 3 series, with m3 engine and kitted to look the same, done properly, only an expert could tell surely.

Do it, but go rose jointed double wish bones all round with torsion bar ARB's so you can get the handling dialed in. I guess the idea was to have a bit of fun and build it cheap, that would probably end up costing about the same is it would to buy one redy built

By the time you finished with the bodywork and the farication it will cost in excess of 8k.

So you will be left with somethng that doesnt look as good as the v6 and probably not as good to drive for more money.

I know you are a very capable individual Dave but I think this would be madness to follow through

£8k.. No way!

I'd say for £4k I would have running car including buying a clio and a Laguna.

Well put it this way I got two mates who own genuine V6's and they are not cheap to run. Also I have spoken to Mark Fish many a time about these cars and I think you are forgetting the enomatiy of the task at hand.

Just think when the powersteering pipes on my mates one needed replacing the parts were in excess of £700!

It would be a good idea to use any parts already developed from the Renault parts bin but this wont be cheap in its self.

I guess you should have a go but I reckon you are understimating the fabrication and body work plus the mechnical work involved.

You have to be aware of the a few things..

1) I've got a fully fitted workshop (two ramps, compressor, every tool you could think of).
2) I have been welding for years and I own some serious welding kit.
3) I have already put an engine in the back of a hatch back
4) I do my own body work.. I think anyone who saw my corsa could vouch for the quality?

For me the only constraint is time.

You're ridiculous

End of the day, it won't be a "Clio V6", there's no argument about it. Same as a Turbo 2000 wouldn't be a WRX. Same as an Audi A3 with a K04 turbo on isn't an S3. Same as a 106 with Rallye stickers on isn't a Rallye (I'm sure you personally would be very offended at that one lol).
