LED TV's is marketing bollocks for an LED backlit LCD, although they tend to offer slightly better contrasts and colours, and will be a bit thinner.
Also 720i (interlaced) is also HD Ready, but ideally you want to be aiming for a 1080p (progressive) panel to get the most out of it.
Personally i would have a hunt for a pioneer kuro, currently the best panel around and if you look around i'm sure you might be able to pick one up for that sort of cash, although they are discounted now. But the picture is something else

Yea just checked the price of the 50", thought they'd have come down a little by now. Saying that though, a 508XD can be had for £1200 which is a bargin considering what you get.

People saying you want the 1080p i choose not to go to 1080p,
I went into richer sounds, watched the LG in 720 and another tv in 1080 and i could hardly tell the difference! and then it came down to what the TV actually looked like!
The PQ6000 is the sexiest TV out there!
Plus most films are recorded in 720 and upscalled to 1080!!
Colin best bet is go to a Richer Sounds and compare the TVs you like!
I opted for a plasma as i will mainly watch standard def TV and DVDs! So there was no reason for me to spend the extra on a 1080 tv plus me and the misus couldnt actually tell the difference!
I suggest actually watching the PQ6000 and then you will see why it has such good reviews!

If you can't tell the difference then fair enough don't get 1080p, just because you can't see the difference doesn't mean everybody else can't though.
What films are recorded in 720p and upscaled?

I am Legend on the back of the case it stated recorded in 720.
true its down to personal prefs, but me and the misus couldnt hardly tell any difference so opted for the better looking tv.

Going to richer sounds is a good shout, or anywhere else they actually have the tv's set up so you can see what the crack is. You also pick up things about them so you can carry on your research and get best for your money.

Either way I'm more than happy with my purchase, if and when there's enough HD channels to warrant sky HD I might purchase a 1080p tv but until then I'll stick with my sexy looking tv within my price range

To be honest i would be skeptical of viewing a tv is dixons/comets/currys, as tellys tend to be sharing sources from crappy DVD/BD players. Richersounds is also known for doing this, although they'll usually plug things up to how you want it (ie: a BD player feeding a single telly, not 5 others) and if your store has a listening room then you can book time and get everything setup accordingly. Although if you have a dedicated HiFi/AV store near you, like Sevenoaks (can't recommend them enough), you can book time with them and you'll get a one-on-one with someone where all your gear is setup in the listening room and you can fully test out the gear. Usually you can strike some good bargin deals as well.
Eitherway it's all opinions, one telly someone says is shit hot might look washed out and cack to you. Personally i would ask on AVForums, this sort of question gets asked everyday. Once you have a few models in mind, go and have a look at them. Then go hunt the cheapest price.

It's more hd than 720p is though and the tv can't display it (it will accept it as an input).
It's been confusing for most people from the start.
1080i is higher resolution than 720p, just interlaced instead of progressive, there's absolutely no reason to not go for a tv with 1080 resolution.

There is obviously also a lot of rubbish circulated about tv/film/sky resolution which doesn't help when people are confused enough as it is.
Whatever gets a sale though eh.
