and i enjoyed the ''lap'' of it with all the spins, so i guess it had the desired effect of entertaining people.

they paid for a new engine anyway so i don't see the problem there?

the fact they didnt mention it untill someone pushed them to pay for it would anger me

true, true i blame the credit crunch. trying to fob people off.

I might have missed it but where did they say that "that" particular kit car was useless. The quote was actually along the lines of, the problem with kit cars is that you never know whose made them; was it someone like James May who fastidiously spent 300 years putting it together or was it someone like me (Clarkson) and lets face it, you wouldn't buy a car that I'd built (Clarkson).

He didn't really make direct reference to that stratos, more kit cars in general and he has a point. I am fortunate to see a vast numebr of kit cars both completed and in build and those builds vary incredibly.

Yes the IVA is there to stop really bad cars getting onto the roads, but there will always be corners cut where possible by some people whereas some will spend time/money wherever its needed

I want to see real world reviews of things like the Peugeot 308.

That would be much more interesting than seeing a supercar/hypercar being thrashed across Europe.

Plus, were you really that bothered about the lap times of something fitted with a Fiat V6 which by the author of the attached statement's own admission wasn't set up properly

I could only see 2 things wrong, Lancia make the most great cars and most of them are really pretty. Crap.

The best bit was when Clarkson compared Lancia to Stephen Hawking!!

Very clever bloke but most of him doesn't work!!!!

They do that on just about every show? T.G. is an entertainment show not a car show.

the best part was the controlled spinning.

Superb car control.

And yes, the entire TG program is fake. Has been for years.

Like the whole airship saga. Indeed, an airport wouldn't take any action until an airship was at its fences would it

The whole program is a farce, but if you watch it for real information, your watching the wrong program.

Its a comical program, i like hearing supercars having the nuts revved off them, thats it really.

PS, watch the episode again, and you can hear the V6 running on 5 cylinders. I thought it sounded rather ill as well

Are you not interested in knowing how a Peugeot 308 Verve drives on a dual carriageway

IMO Top Gear is a good watch, purely for the humour, i dont believe a thing they say, all vauxhalls are shit becuase JC doesnt like them. The laps are always different recordings from different laps, theres been a few episodes where it is obvious. even more so on the "Star in a reasonably priced car"

Also the Races they have are always OTT i.e Racing public transport across london, or even to Japan. What really are the chances that they all arrive thousands of miles away with 10 mins of eachother.

Its purely Entertainment, Fifth Gear is what to watch if you want to know the 'facts'

IMO

The thing that winds me up about it is the fact that it's not clear when they're lying and when they're telling the truth.

Fair do's, if you see an old lancia driving down a deserted road with the body panels falling off it's a good laugh - for the sheer fact that you know it's faked and THAT PART is purely for entertainment purposes.

But when they start messing about with the minute parts of the show where you think they're actually being straight up (ie. lap times) then that's just questioning the integrity of the whole thing.

Basically, there used to be a balance on Top Gear - daft, jokey entertainment bits for people not too interested in technical specs, for example, the challenges. But then they also had the bits I always thought were true, as said, power laps. Now they've started fucking around with the only bit in the show that interests me it's kind of put me off.

Now I think about it I really am, I'm going for a jaunt down the A5 right now to see if I can spot this beast cruising around

They must be getting a hell of a lot of complaints about how it's being done now. But now that it's appealing to a much wider audience, not just a show for anoraks, viewing figures are taking over in importance from the accuracy of what they're actually doing. Unfortunate to say the least.

i think the worst thing here is for the person who built the stratos.. as he said, his business will suffer because of this. im disappointed in top gear immensely not to mention the fake lap times
