Unless you have put stupidly big tyres on them (like my off roader )
TBH colin it would of flash you twice, so would of flash you like half way through the lines, and then at the end to calculate your speed, so i would assume it is the audi
Yeah hope so

The NIP has to be issued within 14 days of the offence when caught by a fixed camera.
Issued meaning the letter has to have been sent within 14 days, not that you have to have received it within 14 days...

If you were doing just above 70 on the speedo i'd say that you'll be fine.
There is a section on the M25 where there are cameras sometimes fixed at 7- and go through them on 72/3 on my speedo. Never once been caught

I've been flashed going through cameras plenty of times, I just assume it's the car going the opposite way that's set it off.

I'm sure I read somewhere they normally don't pursue you unless you are 10% over the limit - so in Colin's case 77mph - just think of the paperwork there would be if everyone doing 71mph or more would cause.
Oh and PMSL at the fool that got done for speeding after just passing his test! MORON.

Colin - If you get a N.I.P. you have 28days to decide what to do. If you get one call the poilce office/unti in question and ask for BOTH photos. This will then allow you to see/check what they are on about. (2m or 5ft between markings, known 0.5sec between pics....)
I dont think you'll receive anything as they have a margin too. Something like 10% over before they are triggered... so 77mph.
Asking for the pics will not affect your N.I.P or conditional offer to settle (3pts and £60)

ive been told the gatsos can only focus on the one lane at a time?
can this be the case with this or can vans cover two lanes? isnt there a way of contacting them?

If that was correct and they deliberately painted lines on both lanes, then I'm sure someone somewhere will have found this out by now and said everybody can speed in <whatever> lane and not be worried about getting done for speeding.

At what point on those road markings do they usually go off?
[Edited on 13-12-2009 by Colin]
As far as I know Col, after it has sensed a vehicle passing above the pre set value, the camera will take a picture at, or shorty after the first line and then again at the last line. The time elapsed between the two images is what dictates the alleged speed of the vehicle.
In my experience, it usually takes about a fortnight for the N.I.P. to come through although it can be sooner.
The police do have six months in which to act though.

Hi mate,
They have 14 days to issue with a ticket up here. If you dont receive anything through the door in this time you free!
I think it was probably someone going the other way that set the camera off. I make a point of doing that lol!

Its 14 working days iirc, so not 2 weeks exactly from the day of the offence.
I also thought this was the case in England.

28 days for a NIP in england, Ive had the "4 week wait" a few times and got off
then once you have the NIP they have 6 months to prosecute

i thought they had to issue the NIP and send it out to you so that you can receive it within 14 working days. if you do not receive it within 14 and get it say 15 days after then you can contest it but all they have to do is provide evidence that they sent the letter say 11 working days after, therefore giving enough time for royal mail to deliver. obviously it is quite difficult to prove you received the letter after 14 working days. but if they provide the record saying they posted it 13 working days after the alleged offence they wouldn't be able to do you for it as they didn't issue it in sufficient time for you to receive within 14 working days.
also gatso's are activated by satellite iirc. it isn't the camera that detects your speeding, its actually a satellite that relays to the camera to take a pic. a manual operator then has to sit down with all the tape when he receives it counting how many white lines have been crossed doing distance/time calculations .
looking at the artistic picture supplied you should be fine ordinarily the first flash is closer to the start of the lines than you were, especially at 70 because within that half a second between flashes you'll be surprised at how far you actually travel.
im sure you'll be fine

shut up
Read up on them.... they radar based, and the white lines are just a back up to check/prove

If you were only doing 71/72 like you've said, you'll be ok.

A satellite , that would be a useful allocation of resources.
A radar (which isn't 100% accurate) gets your speed, if it's over a threshold it takes 2 pictures at an exact time apart.
Some guy in a cupboard then counts the lines crossed in that time and calculates the speed (he's probably not bright enough to calculate the speed, he just knows how many lines is over the limit).
