i dont know why people pay or want to pay thousands on a brand new shell with the power of a fart. she is a girl, she will probably get cheaper insurance on the VXR (sarcasm). if she is willing to pay that much then go for a better, but older car. what about finance on an older type R?

It's a good point Scott, very good point.
Obviously running costs are more but if you get something like a CTR that should be reliable you could save quite a bit of cash.

i pay 250 a month after putting 2k down as a deposit.
its a 3 year hire purchase deal with something like 4.6% interest.. however i did get roughly 3k off the price of the car anyway through my fiat staff discount

I recon anything created by doyle that has "how much" in the title should automatically be binned
Will buying a new car is a very silly idea, plus you know nothing, so stop asking everyone so you can seem like a smart arse when you report back
Also for the how much are these pistons worth, ebay will tell you

You can get a Citroen C2 1.4 VTR for £130 p/m over 3 years with a £600 deposit.
Google is your friend.

Sorry, missed off the bit about it being leased, which in my opinion is the best way of paying for a brand new car.

Will, do the maths yourself and work it out.
Deposit + (payment x term) = what you'll end up paying.
If there's a balloon payment at the end then instead use
Deposit + (payment x term) + Balloon = what you'll end up paying.
179 x 60 is 10740
Plus 2k deposit is 12740.
12 grand is a lot considering it'll be worth 6 in two years. Problem you have then is that she'll have only paid off the deposit plus 24 payments (=6296) so the car will be worth basically nothing to her.
By way of comparison, my Twin Top was 12k and I would hope it'll be worth more than 6 next year and (with respect), its a better car. She could insure a 1.6, drive a nicer car and have something that was worth money to her in a few years rather than shelling out 6 grand to give the car away.
Not sure on figures if she really wants a Corsa but I'm sure my mate got a D SXi for about 9k pre-reg. Would have had to pay interest but not 3k worth. Plus you get discount for early settlement anyway so the total amount payable is offset by that if you sell before the end of the term.

Just to have something to show for my money, same reason I wouldn't rent a house really.
I know it works out better for some people but I looked into it a few months ago and it was paying out an awful lot of money for something I didn't own (unless I paid a stupidly expensive balloon payment)

All depends what it will be worth when you come to sell it and how much you will owe? I.e at the end of the 3 years you will owe X amount but the car will be worth X +/- ?.
The Mrs has her Mini on HP, at the end of the 3 years she will owe £6k and Mini have signed to say they will give a minimum of £8k for the car.

That doesn't sound a very good deal, paying up for 3 years and the car only being worth 2k at the end of it?

Depends whats been paid over the 3 years. Alternatively she could have owned the car outright at the end of the term but the payments would have been a lot higher. Horses for Courses.
The same deal at Vaux on a Corsa ended up in the car being worth less than the outstanding finance following the 3 year term, presumably due to a faster depreciation rate.
