Why would you bore it out if hes on a tight budget? That would cost more than headwork lol.
As above have a go at abit of DIY porting, even if its just to do port matching it will still allow more air in and out. Im gonna have a go at doing my own headwork soon, when i can be bothered to get the tools

Also what cams are you looking at getting? As don't forget that 270 is the max you can go unless you want to have pockets cut in the pistons.

Argh that sums it up then, a nice set of 264's will probably be your best bet keeping a smooth idle.

I would personally go for a set of newman 264 cams, I have read that many people prefer the newman cams over the likes of piper etc.
http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/store/product.php?productid=17549&cat=2815&page=1

hydraulic lifters will be fine, only need solid lifters if your going to run high RPM.
Same with double valve springs, save the money, not needed unless rev'ing high. I would suggest a new set of valve springs and lifters as the springs over time will not be the same height.

Not as far as im aware, i think they only specialise in camshafts.
May be a set of Kent pulleys would see you nicely.
Also if you got a spare few £££ laying around i would also recommend a lightened flywheel, allow the engine to rev much more freely, it makes such a big difference you wudn't believe it.

On my old corsa I fitted a mantzel, s/s blueflame exhaust with a de-cat, modded airbox and a courtney map up-load specific for the mantzel (superchip) and it made 141hp at well lane for a total vauxhall rr day. And for a 1600 with out mega mega mods it pulled well and pushed my mates 2.0 16v corsa. Thats why I went for a LET as doing all that work for a valver was'nt worth it.

I would put my money on the 1600 round the track as well, with uprated suspension it should kill it, as the XE will understeer like mad if going too fast into the corner.

You'll be lucky to see more than 135 bhp to be honest, I'm doing a LOT more to my 1.6 16v and I'll be lucky to get more than 150 bhp as I wont be using carbs/throttle bodies.

i did it mate... think it just depends on how healthy the motor is

Depends on that exactly.
Make sure valves are lapped in properly as any pits on the valves and it will lose air from the cylinder meaning less power. Also make sure that the pistons are sealed nicely with a compression test and compare that with the manafacturers data.

I'm doing a full engine rebuild, bored out block 79.5mm high compression pistons, cams, p&p, inlet manifold, exhaust, remap, be lucky to see much over 150 I reckon.

Wont see as much as a standard C20XE, I'll let you know in a few months when its built, bedded in, mapped and been on the rollers. If it makes over 150 bhp I'll be posting it on every forum I'm on

I know that mate, that's why i wanted figures.

It'll have the revs too so it will be fun.

I like the 4k kick in the back that the XE has.

If you where to put vernier pulleys on, how would you set the timing up, as you cant use them with the cam sensor can you?
