It's not even definitely a product yet
Although the rumours are quite strong.
A tablet with OSX would be at least 2k.
Reading Engadget again, another publisher saying it's definitely being annonced, this seems to be pointing towards some sort of e-reader type affair with lots of content.

Really?
Im purely speculating here, but every January for the last 3 years they have announced a new iphone, and its been released June/July every year for the last 3 years.
It seems only only logical they will follow suit again.
If they're talking of 'outing' the iphone 4G in June, your looking at Xmas release time, which is a bad time for people to spend money on themselves.
time will tell I guess....

It wont have OSX on it, otherwise it'll compete with a macbook.
Im 99% sure it will have OS 4.0 which has been developed specifically for the Itablet release, similarly to what they did with 3.0 and the 3GS release.

This is the only reason that makes sense to me, especially if it's running iPhoneOS. Otherwise it's just a glorified iPod Touch.

Indeed. I think 2010 is going to be the year of the e-readers such as the kindle / nook etc.
Alot of publishers are pushing e books now.

I very nearly got an e-reader at christmas.
The reviews were all the same though, really good but not mature enough yet and I can buy a lot of real books for the price while i'm waiting for something perfect.

one of the planet's most noted book publishers. In a recent interview on CNBC, Terry McGraw (head honcho of McGraw-Hill, naturally), very openly admitted that books from his company would be coming to an Apple tablet "tomorrow," and he also confirmed that his company has "worked with Apple for quite awhile." As he dug the hole deeper, we also learned that the "tablet will be based on the iPhone operating system,"

It could go a few ways, if its just a bigger and better Touch then it'll be priced a fair bit cheaper than their cheapest MacBook at £817. Id guess around the £500-600 mark. If it has a full blown OSX on it then it'll be around the price of the Mac Book imo.
Im really not sure which they are going with though, Im kind of hoping the latter as thats what Id rather have.

I agree, full blown OSX is the way to go with it. And if it does come with iPhoneOS then it'd only be a matter of time before someone gets OSX running on it.
And i wouldn't have thought it'd be priced similar to a macbook, due to the fact that there isn't any connectivity on the tablet (not that i have read).
Joe - if it is true then it's sound like a cool little device, although pricey seems a bit steep and battery life is seriously shite.
Does anyone know if there will be a live video feed?

All well and good having prices, but until you know the full spec list its a bit pointless.
Not sure whether Apple would let someone they've lent a demo product to would be too happy about it being on Twitter either

hah - how is that the case with anything?
more likely
$599 = £599
$699 = £699
$799 = £799
etc
Usually the case with things, that US people get things cheaper. Then once they get shipped over here and have all the extra mark up and tax added they end up bloody expensive.

FOSHO, but it gives at least some indication of what our prices will be.

if it is those prices, it'll be a bloody ripoff as usual - can get a netbook for half that price and a full blown laptop for the same. And it makes it one seriously expensive e-reader.

To be honest most of them he has a good point about...
Thing is, I don't think it'll be a complete flop... as it's cool enough / hyped enough / apple enough for the mass to buy one.
However, those who do buy one, will no doubt get bored with them after posing for a while. The practical applications are a bit small really... and most people already have devices they can use that do the same, only more convienent / better.

I've not seen any iPhone Next Gen announcements in Jan - as someone said - always WWDC time. Apple don't take months to release a product. Its one of thier major marketing tricks. In the press conferance they say "The new Iphone 3GS..selling instore next week" The longest has been around a month from announcement to release.

According to that guy Joe posted up twitter...
- It has a USB port, headset jack and iPod type port
- One size is about double the iPhone and another about 20% smaller than an Air
- Face recognition so it will change the desktop depending on who is using it.
