I have this, I won't mention the price but it was £1.5 million. I know its totally irrelevant to your original question but this way I get to show off.

I've got a TAG Heur SEL. Lovely watch and much dearer than that when new, but you could probably get something similar in stainless steel only, 2nd hand but mint and with a guarantee from a reputable dealer for similar money to the top of your budget (maybe a little more) Simon.
It would be a better choice financially because it would retain what you paid for it more or less and not depreciate like a falling stone the way a designer/fashion watch would.

Mine looks very similar to this but has the numbers instead of numerals. Had it about 6 years though. Got it for my 21st.

Nice Kev. Rather liking some Raymond Weil stuff too and love Omega.
Patek Philippe make some lovely stuff in spite of the gaudy shit. Horrible money though.
