I don't get it?!
We have some blue LED moonlights now that come on at night when the main lights turn off, and they stay on till 1am. I'll get a pic of those too because the tank looks amazing at night!

My mate's mum has one bigger than this one, she has to change the water every day or every other day? Is that correct? lol.. They amaze me, but I wouldn't have the time/money to own some! lol

Here's a slightly better pic of it at night with the moonlight LEDs but its hard to get a good pic on a camera phone
If she's changing the water every day then she is doing something very wrong! The average is probably a 10% water change once a week, and that is mainly to top up the minarals in the water that come with the salt.
I feed two or 3 times a day, ususally a bit of flake food, a tab of frozen brine shrimp, a tab of frozen rotifers, and then I target feed the 3 corals and the 2 scallops with around 3-4ml of live phytoplancton in a turkey baster. The only other maintenance apart from that is emptying the protein skimmer every couple of days, and then cleaning the canister filter once a week under tap water when we do the 10% water change.

Well, after a few months of the marine fish keeping business, I'm afraid to say....
the bug has firmly bitten and it's time to upgrade!
I bought this new 800 litre 6 foot tank off ebay, complete with custom cabinet, sump/refugium etc.
But in walnut colour like in this pic
It got delivered on Wednesday so as soon as the new floor is down in the house then I will be setting it up. Expect some more pics soon!
We are definately getting one of these to go in it though

She is paying for the work on the house as its her house, but I've paid for all of the fish tank stuff myself as well as the projector, amp, speakers etc. I'm actually helping my mum to pay off her mortgage at the moment

Not a bad price on the tank! Out of interest how do you go about making water changes?

Yeah I know, some of the places I was looking at were asking around £4k for ones of that spec. We actually bought a 2nd hand 600 litre tank off ebay, hired a van for the weekend to go get it, took a mate with me to help move it (after being told it would take 2 people) but it was soooo heavy and it slipped from my hand, cut 3 fingers and then dropped about 4" to the floor where the bottom shattered :'( I was in SUCH a bad mood when I got home that I decided to fuck it off and just buy a brand new tank and get it delivered, so now I have to get a new bottom for that tank made and then sell it on
As for water changes, you need to make your own Reverse Osmosis (RO) water and then stick it in a big bucket or whatever with a powerhead to stir it all up, a heater to get it to around 26 degrees and then mix in the salt to just under the right salinity level that you want and then leave it for 24 hours mixing. The next day you have to check the salinity again after all the salt has dissolved and then put in any more if needed, then add it to the tank

Sounds a nightmare preparing the water. I'll stick to my tropicals for now...
How do you change the volume of water? Buckets?

It sounds much worse than it is, it's literally a case of putting the bucket on the floor and turning on the tap from the RO filter, then when the water is high enough turn on the plug for the powerhead and the heater in the bucket. Leave it to fill and chuck in 4 good sized handfulls of salt then leave till the morning, check the salinity and then add a bit more salt if needed.
With this brand new tank we can put the RO water straight in there with the heaters then add the salt directly because there will be no livestock in there, but for general water changes we just use a 50 litre storage box. With this new tank though a 10% water change will be around 80 litres so we can use 3 of the 25 litre water drums and heat them to about the right temnp and then just syphon them in :-)

We should hopefully be getting one of these in the tank too though, so tbh I think all the effort will be worth it!!

ive just setup a small 70 ltr tank for a pair of clowns, has 10kg's of live rock in at the mo once i have fish in it in about a month or so how often do you do water changes as my big tropical tank i do it weekly thats 280 ltr.....
lucky thing for me is shop down the road do ready mixed salt water which is spot on lol as i have checked it myself and got 3 other shops to check it to ensure its sg... only 12p a litre mixed ro with salt lol
mind you i love how you say the bug has caught on lol your other tank has only just started to get established
