Bizarre. Willing to spend hundreds and hundreds on mods but not insuring them. Totally illegal and stupid.

And it is surprisingly cheap to insure mods as well.

Also, as a final point. Most insurance doesn't insure against replacing the mods only to restore the car to standard. I suggest you all check your policies to make sure you are insured for modification replacement.

Was there a need to insult me there????

IME it is cheap to insure mods and FWIW I don't care what you think with your little 1.2 8v beast.

Your the pr!ck for not declaring your mods. I dont want to go to a cruise or something have you go into the side of me then have to spend 12 months going through court getting a claim from you only to have it paid back at 1 quid a week because your insurance voided u!

Exactly.

I spent an evening on admiral's website adding various mods to the quote. For a bit of lowering, filter & exhaust it was about and extra 30 quid on the insurance for an Escort RST.

Some companies regard an engine transplant the same as an airfilter so there are huge savings to be made there.

I think people have the idea in their heads that mods = huge increase in premium. It doesn't.

Well your saying that for me to add my no power increase exhuast and alloys was cheap, to the tune of £190.......you have too much money then.

Oh and dogz you sound so righteous, never done anything wrong have we.

Oh and for your information I did ring up at an earlier date and thought they had dealt with it but it turned out they hadn't charged me for it.

TBH for a bit I was playing the odds.......if I declare all mods and pay X amount of £££ and dont have a crash then I am seriously out of pocket, if I dont declare and have an accident I am out of insurance and left paying for it myself. The deciding factor is if I can drive to a standard that means I dont cause any accidents.

If you can't afford to insure your vehicle with the modifications you have added then you really shouldn't be in the modifying game.

didums. thats what you pay insurance for, just in case. I spend £1400 last year on insurance and thats worth more then my car.

Yes I realise that but like I said I was playing the odd's. I am now for paying for every moddification, its just bloody annoying that I will pay £1700 this year to my insurance company for a little 1.2 8V and not be involved in an accident that is my fault.

So dogz you never done anything wrong, I dont believe that for one second.

I can afford to insure the mods its just I would rather the money in my pocket rather than in some fat cats pocket. The money I pay for my insurance is half of my years wages working part time, I work hard to save up for mods never mind then having to save up even more to cover them on insurance.

But I spoke to a decent bloke on the phone today that actually knew about cars and he gave me some money back from insurance because he knew they over charged me and also only wants an extra £35 for 60mm lowering and colour coded exterior.

Not getting on anyones back (makarus im in the same postiotn as you. Paying £1300 FC insurance on a 1.2!).

the way i look at it, Tesco shouldnt have given you the option to pay the £190 for the mods. They should have told you to GTF. like i said though this is nothing personal to you. They should do this to every one who they find has undeclaired mods, whether the accident was their fault or not. Doing this would make people realise they need to declair anything they do to their cars.

liverpool victoria are really good with mods. havent got any myself but know a guy my age (19) had a brand new saxo 1.1 (i know its shit) two years ago. has had it lowered put a 1.6 (i think) engine in. taken out the back seats put rally seats in the front, got about £3000 of ICE where the back seats used to be. PS1 with telly in front of passenger worth about £1500 altogether. got kits and exhausts and alsorts else, his insurance with LV is only £1700 fully comp. it was only £2010 when he first got it when he was 17. dont know what you guys think but for what he's got i thought that was a good price.

Yeah I know what ya mean rob. But the fact that he hit me pisses me off its a month down the line and my insurance company haven't really made an effort. For £1500 a year they should do, and even when they bump it up to £1700 a year and still do nothing its even worse.

I know I aint the only person but when you pay a lot you expect them to put effort into it. It would take them about 1-2 hours to sort it out.

Alright for some eh nath.

Thats the plan, I want a company that will insure me on a 2lt conversion at 18,

Must be possible and I will have a full time job after this college year is done, so will be able to afford to insure it and mod it.

With simple mods, in the past I was tempted not to tell the insurance all of the details.. but when the mods got serious I made sure I declared everything.

A good thing I did too, as when I had to claim, they sent a couple of examiners out to check the condition of the car... They ended up paying for all of the mods to be put back... and a few extras.

Liverpool & Victoria appear to be the dogz bollox... I saved nearly 700 quid by moving to them this year..... compared to my re-quote at Adrian FUX!
