if i can find a good white derv with red leather id go for that, but theres abour 3 for sale in the county and most are over my budget, i can save the extra cash but they will be harder to get hold of in summer

There was a white 3 series Msport with red leather & the tin top folding roof in BMW today I was in. Looked mint, I didnt notice the price though!!

I think i would go for the derv too, there pretty quick, well better than i was expecting in my mates 320d ( All be it not a convertible )

I wouldn't have black either tbh. A dark 'colour' or silver suits me fine. Dark blues are always nice.
I just think I'd get fed up of white very quickly. Theres a guy at work with a white astra and although its a different league to the BM its very boring to see day after day.
Plus he ends up washing it every 4 or 5 days so it doesn't look a state.

I found the diesel lump to be a intrusive with the roof down. Roof up - its a great engine.
The petrol 320i is gutless even with 170hp, although its certainly a better place to be when the roof is down and your sat in traffic.
Colour wise, for me I would be choosing black on black personally, although I do like the white and dont think the combo will be detremental to the residual - all your doing is isolating the potential buyer audience when you come to sell.
Lastly - I would look to get one with Nav if you can stretch to it. You would only get back circa 20-30% of RRP at resale imo.
