Me and Jacko seem to have similar yet different wash routines This is for "big washes", not the weekly one which is just shampoo'd once, washed off, dried, wheels and windows cleaned.
Wash with hose
Shampoo with two bucket method
Rinse off
Dry
Clay
Rinse
Dry
Polish
Buff off
Wax
Buff off
Clean wheels
Clean windows

Don't turn to the dark side. Turtle Wax shampoo with wax. one bucket, one sponge, silicon blade to dry it. Don't be ghey and spend any more that 15 minutes washing it.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

A good clean up (not even to the extent of my A4 thread I've posted) every so often is the key. Using a long lasting wax to provide some durable protection helps massively.
Initial clean up would be along the lines of:
Pre Rinse,
Wash,
Dry,
De tar,
Clay
Polish,
Wax
Then next time:
Wash,
Dry,
Wax
Then after that you'll be fine to just wash and dry for a good few months. When you notice the protection starting to fail, it's time to do the thorough one again.
Hope that makes sense?
Most durable wax by a mile is Collinite 476s and doesn't cost a great deal (£13.25 + postage from me )

the two bucket method is for people nothing better to do on their weekend than fill up two buckets of water. Get some decent shampoo and collinites to go over afterwards

I take it a warm rinse/hose followed by a sponge and soapy water (car shampoo), rinse, chamois dry then a polish with Zymol Cleaner Wax is a bit lame. Thats been my routine over the last few years
What should be done - bearing in mind I am NOT going to spend 100's on wax and take about 5hrs to clean it.
Set of step ladders might help......................

I washed my old one in 15 minutes last month, and that included filling the bucket and drying it off

Rinse off with hose/washer
Clay bar if needed then shampoo and rinse again
Chamois dry
Apply wax then polish
Dress tyres and do inside windows as well
Job done

Adam, mine is so badly swirled that you can see it in any light
I find it always leaves steaks of water marks if I go for a drive and there are bits of water hanging around at the bottom of the windows or mirror baseplates.
