Why does it have to be a Vectra 2.2 diesel? If it's a commute just get something smaller? Will get that insurance down.
well its not eaxtly keep the miles of but incase it breaks down etc which it does if you read on from what ive said  and i want some thing nice and comfortable.

Having two cars was the best thing I ever did. Yeh you have to pay two lots of tax, insurance, MOT, fuel etc. but there is no way I could use my Corsa everyday. My Metro's suspension went last year and I was without it for 3 or 4 days as it was awaiting hose and pump up at a specialist. It was horrific. Starting that thing up on the drive and driving it to work at 6:30am! Noisy and bumpy isn't the word. At least with my daily runner I can afford to make my Corsa a true project/weekend car to show off in

Everyone can find an alternative way to work if their car breaks down. There is always a way around problems like that.
When buying a saxo did you think it was going to be reliable?

true. my corsa is off road for work done on it. my vectra broke down had no car for 5 days still got to work no problems.

nope but i worked down the road if it broke down i could walk. and not the times i work. at the end of the day does it matter why i need 2 cars. i can afford to run 2. im just not paying 1900quid a year for insurance on a 2nd car, just wanted to know if i got my dad to insure it i could still use it. which according to some people i can.

it all depends on you current insurance policy. if you are a named driver onyour dads policy on this second car then yes ofcourse you can use it.
having 2 cars, like thegsi said is the best thing i ever did.

yea nic well im insured to drive any car, or id get put on his policy to for it. but like i say, im sick of driving to work 5.30 in the morning with a loud exhaust and a bumpy car. and if it goes wrong then i will be fucked. and im not payin a taxi to take me 15mile there 15 back.

Just get a smaller car as a 2nd car then will bring the costs down, and yes you can insure it in your dads name and be a named driver.
Another vote for having 2 vehicles being the best thing I've done.

I do too much mileage about 45-50k a year, so a dog of a second car is the best solution, i paid £600 for my 1.8 Astra Sport nearly 5 years ago, its £200 a year to insure, I don't give a shit where I leave, its dirt cheap to fix and run.
Plus I work in London and people in London can't drive for shit!! (as most are on international licences!) There is no way I would leave any car worth over a grand on the back streets of Brixton!
This year alone I've had 2 people hit my car whilst it was in a car park!!

aye it seems like a good idea to me, thats another thing as well. i do alot of miles and alot of them been motorway miles, which is also why im after something with comfort. the vectra was just an option i have been looking at.

only because it was £150 to buy, £230 to insure and cheap tax, i gave it death and it fell to bits, but i still managed 15,000miles in it and got £40 back from the scrappy.
saved me loads of money and was useful as the corrado had quite a lot of work done and was off the road quite a bit.

Dont see the point in a 2nd car, unless maybe you own an ariel atom & your shoppings getting wet or something, certainly never to keep the miles off a saxo.

plus if you read the rest, its the fact its bumpy, noisey and not very comfy at half 5 in the morning and on long journeys. but i want to keep it just for weekends and night times.

it dont make sense to me either, keeping miles off the saxo is like saving saving a bottle of fanta fruit twist to mature for 12years?! why?
get a better car and road cover and you wont break down in the first place..save money on double road tax, MOT's, maintence, services...
it dont make any sense!

Mainly because its a massed produced hatchback & not something prestige.
If it was a classic car or something rare, or something totally inpractical like a lotus 7 or westie then a 2nd car wouldnt be a bad shout. A saxo however, can be replaced relatively cheaply & to me doesnt warrant buying, taxing, moting, maintaining & fraudly insuring in yer da's name another vehicle.
