This - the Shell diesel definately goes further. I never noticed much difference with petrol, but the diesel definately goes 30 or 40 miles more per tank doing the same driving.
I used to get a nice discount using the Shell credit card as well but they've withdrawn it now

Yeah I used to have the shell credit card and the drivers club, used to save 3p a litre on the fuel and get a point a litre, was cool
Deffo, 30/40 miles more in both the Ibiza and the tow

Engine in my ZT was probably designed when steam engines were still in use so i would probably run on the water tipped from the bottom of a bucket of coal.

There's no point in using fuel with better octane rating unless you own a nippy car, it's been proven, you are wasting your time saying "ho ho, let's not use tesco fuel to put into our nissan micra". If it's anything close to a subaru or mitsubishi evo, then fair enough, you will see BHP gains from using better fuel, until then, sit down, shut up, fuel up from tesco.

it is worth mentioning if you spill fuel on side of your car after removing the nozzle that you should wipe it off the panel. It can damage the clear coat people. Dont be ignorant. Spill then wipe.

Shell V Power for me. 2 reasons, Shell points & there is one at the end of my road that's always the cheapest around
I would stick in Supermarket fuel if I had too but only the amount necessary to get me to a Shell station and probably wouldn't boot it. Just personal preference really.
122.9 breaks my heart though.

I use Asda and Tesco, they are the cheapest round here. Car idles and runs noticably better on Tesco 99 but it doesnt run bad on normal stuff, just a bit more lumpy on idle and not as smooth power delivery, id like to use the 99 all the time but when im just driving to town and back everyday theres no point. Its a z20let with a thorney re-map.

In my humble opinion the difference only occurs with "special" fuels as it's that own brands "recipe" i.e Shell Optimax having a different mix to BP Ultimate.
Sainsburys in my town uses a plain white BP tanker. The only thing sayin it's BP is the badge on the cab doors.
But as said, it only really matters with high performance cars. Dad's M3 used to stutter on acceleration with Sainsburys Super Unleaded. BMW said try Shell Optimax. A few tanks in, after the filter and lines had been cleared and in accelerated fine plus felt more responsive.

To be fair though Nic, you're in a different situation to the people in their 1.2 8v's who think that the premium fuel from more expensive garages makes the car work better which is actually all in their mind.
My mate's Astra has the same engine as my C and he reckons that the Tesco 99 gives a few more miles and the engine runs a bit nicer, but It means an hour round trip whereas there is a normal Tesco's Esso garage 2 miles up the road

never noticed a difference myself.
people who say'' tescos/asdas/morrisons fuel doesn't give as good MPG as bp/shell fuel'', how do you know?
have you recreated every real world event from when you filled up with tescos to when you filled up with bp?
every traffic light stop, every traffic jam, matched very rev/speed correctly?

I thought I'd just say one more thing, the RON number is the fuels resistance to ignition under compression. Diesels is something like 20 and aviation fuel is 110, if your engine runs 'rough' or 'hesitates' when you put 95 in as opposed to 98 or 99 then I think you might be a sucker for the old placebo effect.

The Sainsbury City Diesel seems to give a slightly better MPG on motorway driving, but then the engine doesnt feel as smooth as BP
