Regarding taking a shite job, well ive applied for many over the last few months and not heard jack shit. The ones that did reply told me that im overqualified and I have had agencies asking me WTF I am doing applying for such roles. Im like duh.... I need a job and will pretty much do anything. Their response is, HR departments are not stupid they know that you will take the job and leave a few weeks later when something else comes up.
I have even interviewed for junior roles and had feedback telling me I performed really well at interview but they decided I was overqualified. So its like why interview me in the first place then?
So trying to get a low paid bog cleaning job is not as easy as you think. Dont believe me then go and try it.
Thankfully I have 3 interviews next week all for Project Management roles. They have suddenly all come at once which has led me to believe that there has not been anything wrong with my CV/Interview technique but simply that the roles just havent been there due to the recession.

Tbh it looks like she obviously had a screw loose to kill herself so the emloyers were probably right not to give her a job - she'd of probably of been the type to get signed off with stress and spend months sat at home at the employers expense.

I fail to see how this girls is getting related to the generation of graduates that believe their degree = a great job when they finish university.
Also with supermarket jobs its not that easy to just apply and get one. I know quite a few people that are more then capable whom have been trying to get jobs at Tescos and Sainsburys for months without any luck. I havent seen any job vacancies on their instore boards for as long as I can remember.
I meant in general someone with good qualifications yet no work/life experience thinking they can walk into a job. It just doesn't happen !!
Ive been knocked back by Asda before tbh I think they were looking for ethnic lesbian jews that recruitment drive to bump up their equal opportunities policy

Exactly!
Every time someone says to me why dont you just work in a factory or stack boxes or something. Im sick of hearing that from friends and families, ive fucking tried to get these roles just to get by only to be told that they wont risk taking me on as they know I will sod off!

When I got my bog cleaning job...........,well it was actually labouring for a Tool Hire Company, but I got all the 'shit'' jobs to do (no pun intended!!) I had just been going door to door at a local industrial place enquiring for work & got lucky at one of the places I stopped.
But honestly no word of a lie the 3 times ive been out of work ive found something to keep me plodding along pretty much straight away.
Its always been while in work that ive often struggled to get a move somewhere I wanted to go.

Dislaimer: This isnt an ed friendly post..
this is exactly why uni is a complete waste of time, for anything less then specialist jobs, eg drs lawyers etc.
All these fucking uni twats, with a degree in psychology or some shit think they are the be all and end all and can end up in any job they want because they have a piece of paper

If I ever have children and they want to go into higher education then I'd try to convince them to do something specialist like the roles you have mentioned.
Criminology seems to be the big one at the moment, they all think if they do that then they will be cracker or Clarice Starling when they graduate.

If i want to be boring and constructive then the government needs to invest more in Careers advice. Young people need real objective advice before they choose their post school activities as it seems they are being brainwashed into thinking degree = instant 40k job.

We had a careers library at school and someone would come in once a week to talk to year 11.
To be fair they weren't very helpful yet there were books and leaflets everywhere.
Just having the information on show doesn't help you choose a career path. You need more one on one discussions and examples of careers.
